Head of Capital Projects
Location: Sutton, SM1
Salary: Pay Scale, Spine Points (30–34), GBP66,405 – GBP72,711 per annum
Hours: 36 hours per week, (Mon – Thurs 8.45am 4.30pm, Fri 8.45am 4.15pm)
The College and Academy Trust is a family of specialist education providers for over 1500 pupils and students from nursery to further education across 14 academies and 9 college centres in London, Surrey, Sussex and Berkshire. Supporting their academies and college, they also operate learning support, such as nursing and therapy, and a central business support team which includes HR, finance and IT.
Pupils and students within the Trust family have a wide range of learning abilities and additional needs including autistic spectrum disorder; speech, language and communication difficulties; social, emotional and mental health; profound and multiple disabilities; and physical disabilities including multi–sensory impairment and complex health needs.
The Role
They are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic person to lead their Capital Projects Team with overall responsibility for leading the delivery of a multi–million pound service across the Trust. The team is part of the central business support team, based in Sutton, that delivers services to their schools and college as part of a multi–functional team including finance, human resources, procurement, marketing, and IT.
You will have a track record of delivering complex projects to time and budget within the time limited delivery windows available to us during school and college holiday periods. You will manage estates capital projects ensuring specifications are appropriately scoped in collaboration with their building surveying partners, commissioning partners and school/college leadership teams.
In partnership with their Finance Team, you will liaise and report on the capital and revenue budgets for projects being undertaken, including tracking of expenditure, forecasting and reporting, working to ensure projects are delivered within identified resources.
As an experienced and qualified professional, you will lead a large and complex team of internal and external project managers and suppliers and work collaboratively with other internal stakeholders to deliver projects that enhance their learning environments both from a curriculum and non– curriculum perspective, ensuring all projects are delivered successfully, on time and within budget. Experience of professional partnerships and relationships as well as significant experience in programme management is essential.
Skills and Qualifications
- Recognised training / qualification associated with built asset project management (Prince 2 or equivalent)
- Appropriate qualification / experience in programme management
- A relevant technical qualification or extensive professional experience
- To hold or be willing to work towards NEBOSH or IOSH qualification.
- Proven experience of leading a high performing team
- A valid UK driving license to enable travel to schools and college centres with limited public transport availability
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Possess good communication skills both written and spoken and be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
- Excellent organisational skills, in order to manage work to meet deadlines and ensuring attention to detail.
