The Senior Innovation Project Manager will require good problem solving and project delivery capabilities to deal with challenges and opportunities associated with future low carbon networks for which no blueprint currently exists. The role requires extensive breadth of thinking, not limited to technological solutions but open to innovative out–of–box solutions to the future challenges and opportunities impacting the business and the communities we serve. The role requires experienced project managers who can manage innovation projects and possess most of the following skills:


  • Demonstrable experience in a technical, analytical role in the electricity industry with a strong customer focus;


  • A proven record in managing and delivering technical/digital and customer–focused projects in the electricity sector;


  • A strong interest in sustainability and inclusion;


  • Degree in engineering, science or social sciences.

Desirable if able to demonstrate any of the following

  • Project/programme management qualification at APMP / Prince2 level or equivalent;
  • Excellent understanding of the challenges and opportunities posed by the Net Zero transition to the electricity networks, including what they mean in terms of consumer vulnerability and wider social sustainability;
  • Distinctive caring nature, strong customer focus and ability to understand customers changing needs;
  • Good understanding of transition of distribution networks to Distribution System Operators (DSO) and smart grids, including flexibility/demand side response;
  • Good understanding of electricity network assets and/or design, planning and operation of electricity distribution or transmission networks;
  • Good understanding of low carbon technologies and low carbon solutions;
  • Good understanding of corporate social responsibility in the context of electricity distribution networks or other utility networks (e.g. gas and water);
  • Good ability to develop cost–benefit analysis;
  • Proven experience of successfully leading complex projects involving a structured project management framework, multidisciplinary teams, and multiple internal/external stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate clearly and confidently with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority;
  • Excellent written communication skills, with an evidenced ability to write clearly, concisely, and effectively for both technical and non–technical audiences;
  • Positive attitude and strong negotiation & influencing skills to manage relationships with other internal directorates, teams and other third parties;
  • Resilient personality, enthusiastic, agile and able to work well as part of a highly focused and diverse team;
  • Excellent self–organisation and self–motivation skills; able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision, under pressure and to hard deadlines, with a focus on delivering outputs.
