Chief Accountant needed to work with a leading Public Sector organisation.Chief Accountant – Hybrid working – up to GBP80k per annum – Good benefitsA fantastic opportunity has arisen for a qualified individual to join the Finance team of a major Public Sector organisation based in Guildford. The Chief Accountant will lead the delivery of the Financial Accounting services and assure the compliance of financial accounting activities with the statutory requirements and with best practice professional financial management standards. You will oversee and direct the work carried out by the financial accounting team including maintenance of the General Ledger, statutory reporting, capital and treasury management, audit and governance, and the operations of effective financial systems. You will work as part of the senior management team within Finance, support the Service Director – Finance & Regional Services and when necessary, represent Finance in the engagement with Senior Officers.Main responsibilities Lead on the implementation and development of financial governance frameworks, to include the recommendation and application of appropriate systems, policies and procedures to mitigate organisational financial risk and to satisfy both internal and external audit requirements. Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure audit recommendations are monitored, reported and implemented. Work with the Service Director to develop and maintain Corporate Financial Policies, Strategies, Systems and Practices. Play an active role in developing the Finance function; creating a strong cultural identity and cohesion, empowering staff, promoting accountability and the autonomy to deliver internal and external objectives Oversee the accounting, budgeting and reporting arrangements for the organisation's pension funds. Lead for the organisation on all matters relating to taxation, providing a centre of expertise on issues relating to VAT, Tax, accounting regulations, standards, policies and procedures. Ensure changes to VAT, Tax, Accounting Standards and Regulations are implemented. Team budget, salaries and non–pay budget lines.To be considered for the role CIMA/ACCA/CIPFA qualified Extensive experience in financial accounting, maintaining ledgers, reconciliations and journals, financial reporting, managing audit, pensions accounting, annual close down, preparing a statement of accounts, banking and treasury management. relevant experience of working within a large and complex financial environmentPlease contact me as soon as you can so we can discuss the role in more detail.or
