My client is a Global FMCG business who have experienced significant growth over the last 3 years and have decided to embark on a 5 year transformation programme.

The Head of Engineering will be instrumental in driving for real change and transformation across their logistics network which encompasses 20+ sites.

The Head of Engineering is responsible for defining, developing and implementing strategies and new engineering initiatives for the UK logistics network. Working with Senior Managers, the focus will be to deliver the company's 5 year Logistics Engineering strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and empower the UK Engineering team, consisting of a local engineers in each location, capital projects team and facilities management teams across the country
  • Develop, own and deliver the engineering / technical master plan for the UK operations both in terms of automation, equipment, standards and capability.
  • Ensure the capability to deliver significant CAPEX projects are delivered on time, on budget with the right level of technical capability
  • Expertise and leadership to drive world–wide logistics strategy with successful impact to business operating models.
  • Responsible for building and developing strategy for logistics network optimisation/transformation based on knowledge of Logistics Operations, 3PL agreements, benchmarking to best practices, and industry trends.
  • Manage and optimise the current automation across the DCs.
  • Develop, own and deliver the engineering / technical master plan for the UK operations both in terms of automation, equipment, standards and capability.
  • Drive cost efficiency through an on–going programme of process improvement, productivity, maintenance and working capital.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to implement improvements to the global logistics network throughout all business units.
  • Responsible for managing strategic projects and major programs that benefit or impact the broader logistics strategy.
  • Access global trade compliance practices and ensure import / export regulations are being administered.
  • Identify and assess supply chain systems, technology, and industry best practices to simplify, improve productivity.
  • Build strong internal and external partnership relationships, define, and measure capabilities, drive efficiencies, and improve performance.
  • Represent the Engineering team in Sales & Operations Planning, Business Planning meetings, and support Technical and Sales teams where needed.
  • Execute a global logistics network design study, access current and long–term needs, and build out future roadmap.
  • Develop compelling business cases for projects/programs based on robust analytics.
  • Continually assess National Logistics business strategies and processes with the mindset of continuous improvement.

  • 10+ years of supply chain and logistics experience within the FMCG, 3PL, e–Comm, Healthcare or Pharmaceuticals.
  • Minimum graduate level degree, with higher qualifications highly desirable, either at MBA level or in Logistics
  • Significant experience within a Logistics Engineering role that encompasses supply chain operations, logistics & distribution strategy, logistics project management, materials management, and warehouse operations.
  • Proven to possess highly developed project management skills.
  • Significant experience and proven track record acquired in a multi–site and multi–national manufacturing supply chain and/or store operations/advanced 3PL.
  • Experience of working more broadly than just the operation, with a demonstrable track record of vendor management and customer satisfaction
  • Understands supply chain, manufacturing, fulfilment, capital, and capacity metrics.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing operations and exposure to Lean/Six Sigma principles
  • Strategic thinker who recognises patterns/trends, asks probing question, discerns the key/significant points
  • Creates business strategy and leadership strategy; implements tactics that are consistent with strategy
