Are you an experienced and qualified accountant seeking an exciting opportunity to contribute to a policy institute in London? We are currently hiring a Temporary Financial Controller to a dynamic finance team. This role requires a proactive individual with exceptional financial expertise and a strong commitment to accuracy and efficiency. Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts within tight deadlines.
  • Supervise month–end journal calculations, balance sheet reconciliations, and the production of the monthly management accounts pack.
  • Assist in completing the financial statements for the annual statutory accounts, liaising with auditors as necessary.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting and reporting processes, implementing necessary controls.
  • Generate cash flow forecasts and contribute to optimising cash resources.
  • Administer Finance payment systems, overseeing signatories involvement and providing guidance on their effective use.
  • Authorise payments as a bank signatory at the appropriate level.
  • Lead special projects such as annual IRS returns, income and funding analyses, financial reports, VAT and compliance reviews, and ad–hoc assignments.
  • Ensure completion of annual UK tax returns.

People:

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the institute as a trusted Business Partner.
  • Act as a key VAT expert, supervising Management and Financial Accountants in VAT matters and enhancing non–Finance staff's understanding of VAT.
  • Support research and non–research departments with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Assist in producing the annual Business and Financial Plan.
  • Provide financial analysis and advisory support as required.

Strategy:

  • Support the department in identifying and implementing process changes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance Department and the organisation, including finance systems' improvements.

Requirements:

Skills and Experience:

  • ACA/CA/ACCA/CIMA qualified accountant.
  • Significant experience in a similar financial accounting role.
  • Demonstrable experience in producing management accounts through to year–end accounts.
  • Experience working in the charity/not–for–profit sector (desirable).
  • Strong Excel, technology, and data analysis skills.
  • Proactive, self–motivated approach to work, with a collaborative and consistent mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to present financial information in a clear, concise, and accessible manner to diverse audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.

This is a temporary position offering a hybrid work arrangement of 3–4 days a week in our central London office.
