Financial Controller - Reading

We are working exclusively with a sophisticated US manufacturing client (NYSE listed) with operations across 30 territories.

A broad controllership opportunity within this highly collaborative and inclusive environment. The role is a broad mix of commercial and reporting working and supporting operations, sales, engineering teams.

Reporting to the General Manager

Location: Reading / hybrid - 3 days min office requirement

Objective:
  • Responsibility for the management and control of company finances, in conjunction with the General Manager
  • Responsibility for the functioning of the company ERP system
  • To act as the Company Secretary


Job Functions:

  • Leadership of finance team (3)
  • Supervising the processing of accounting information to enable the accurate preparation of a monthly management accounting pack. Ensuring the timely transfer of the resulting information onto the corporate financial systems
  • Responsible for weekly flash and monthly close revenue reporting process and completion of ancillary tasks on the closing checklist
  • Presentation of financial results in leadership team and all hands meetings
  • Responsible for function of the ERP system including finance routines, issue resolution, and implementation of patches
  • Preparation of the annual financial accounting pack and tax computation with all back up documentation that is required to ensure the satisfactory completion of the year end audit
  • Managing the cash flow of the company by controlling the timely collection of customer balances and the timely payment of supplier balances
  • Working with the leadership team in the preparation of the annual budget, quarterly forecasts and long-range plan. Monitoring, reporting and explanation of variances between actuals and budget / forecast.
  • Responsible for the project accounting process, including the correct accounting classification and timely closure of projects, and the monthly project completion review processes
  • Preparation, submission and authorisation of capex requests and spend, and oversight of inventory and WIP cycle counting processes
  • Maintenance of appropriate records and the preparation and timely execution of the monthly salaries
  • Timely and accurate preparation of the quarterly VAT returns, and dealing with the providers of business insurance and banking services
  • To provide data and insight, both financial and non-financial, and to lead the roll out of Power BI reporting, and to undertake special projects as required
  • Undertake Company Secretarial duties, including maintaining company records and minuting board meetings, and completing government surveys
  • Working with sales, operations and engineering departments to improve the accuracy of the standard costing system. Working with the sales and marketing teams to ensure business is appropriately priced.


Qualifications:

  • Must hold a recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)


Experience and Competencies:

  • Minimum of 5 years accountancy experience
  • Must be familiar with standard costing and modern ERP systems, and be an experience user of Microsoft Office with strong Excel
  • Must be capable of performing the Company secretarial role
  • Manufacturing experience preferred and exposure to long term contract accounting would be beneficial
