Our innovative client based in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire are looking for a qualified accountant to join their team as Financial Controller on a permanent basis. The role will be on a hybrid basis where you work 2 days in the office and 3 from home, lead a small team whilst reporting into the Managing Director.
This job would suit an ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified accountant to offer insight into the Management Accounts through analysis, discussion and commentary in order to provide a concise narrative to the Board as well as external investors.

The successful individual will be an energetic qualified accountant with strong problem solving, conflict management and decision–making skills. For this role you must be able to work well in a pressurised environment and be able to communicate across all levels of the business. Strong IT skills are essential for this role, with advanced Excel (pivot tables, macros). This will be a key role in shaping the future vision, drive, and expectations of the company.
Job responsibilities:
- To manage and develop the finance team, including providing on–going supervision and support and performing timely PDRs
- Financial analysis of specific business actions and projects to ensure business practice is in line with the long–term strategy and to support the ongoing growth of the company
- Review financial controls, processes and systems offering solutions and improvements and implementing these changes accordingly
- Responsibility for the breakdown of ongoing business costs providing detailed analysis and commentary where there are significant deviations from budget
- Review the monthly management accounts providing commentary and analysis
- Review of ongoing pre–payments and accruals
- Canadian Tax Return
- Principal contact for Auditors during end of year audit
- Management and oversight of core finance operations including cash flow and forecasting, balance sheet reconciliations, preparation of month–end adjustment journals, bank reconciliations and fixed asset register
- Preparation of the Financial Report for Board Meetings as well as other reports, analysis and commentary as requested by the Managing Director or CEO
- Finance representation within the Senior Leadership Team of the business
- Ensure that relevant monthly financial information is provided to Scholastic Inc, the parent company
- Ownership of Company Budget and forecasts
- Review 'Year End Accounts' in preparation for year–end audit
- Reconciling the monthly payroll reports.
