Head of Trading – Glasgow/Belfast

To support the delivery of our Insurance Division growth strategy and to provide customer–focused solutions we have created a new role – Head of Trading. In this role you lead the branch office to deliver the agreed allocation of the UK Regions Business Plan across all Product Lines, taking accountability for Broker/Customer relationships and management of the Underwriting teams.

Primary Your responsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to:

• Contribute as a member of the UK Regions Leadership Team to drive consistency in operating model and deliver key metrics of Business Plan – GWP, New Business, NCOR, Rate, Retention & Acquisition Costs

• Monitor and report on Plan progress to the Director of UK Regions, identify deviations, recommend remedial action, and implement. Contribute to the Planning process working closely with Product teams from an overall branch perspective.

• Execute responsibilities as required by QBE EO's underwriting and compliance framework to ensure all activities: comply with all legal and regulatory requirements; adhere to underwriting standards and good practice; meet conduct risk effectively

• In collaboration with the Market Management build and execute distribution plans with agreed strategic broker partners. Manage broker, customer, and other partners at a senior level through external engagement/visibility and build status as trading lead in Branch.

• Underwrite risks in accordance with business plan and underwriting authority. Achieve balance between overall customer deliverables and individual product requirements to the benefit of QBE and the customer.

• Represent QBE's interests with the press, internal and external groups and through participation in industry forums and corporate activity, on a regional and/or local basis. Actively support QBE's Networks and diversity agendas.

• Manage and support the Branch product team to: execute business plan and strategy align people, resources, and processes to business needs establish clear accountabilities and build a culture of collaboration

• Manage, resource, motivate, develop, and focus the team to ensure the required standards of performance and support the continuing personal and professional development of team members

• Collaborate with other functions including, but not limited to, Claims, Market Management, Risk Solutions and Operations and ensure aligned decision making to the benefit of QBE customers

You will need to be able to display you have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Strong technical competency within Product disciplines (Casualty, Property, Motor etc) with an understanding of the benefits of cross class client solutions
  • People management experience with the capability to engage and lead a team and recognise the value our people bring
  • In depth knowledge of the UK Insurance market, with an understanding of relevant market trends and local market knowledge
  • Clear ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders, fostering relationships with brokers/clients and the ability to execute at pace
  • Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and champion business change where required
