Search is exclusively working with a highly innovative and up and coming food manufacturer who has an amazing opportunity for a Head of Technical to join their business. The Head of Technical will be responsible for overseeing the Technical Department. This includes all the technical aspects of the New Product Development (NPD). You will be tasked with ensuring product quality and safety, developing, and maintaining documentation, attending production runs, and collaborating with various teams to improve products and processes. Your role will be essential to the company's data–driven food manufacturing approach, and you will play a key role in implementing and maintaining quality standards.
As the Head of Technical, you will be evaluated based on the following KPIs:
Successful implementation of technical requirements for existing and newly developed products.
Successful initiation and completion of NPD and EPD processes.
Accuracy and compliance of documentation and traceability.
Improvement of recipe design to reduce labour and production complexity.
Effective communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Implementation and maintenance of quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality assurance: As the Head of Technical, you will be responsible for ensuring that the company's products meet customer requirements and industry standards for quality. This includes conducting regular quality checks and audits, identifying, and addressing any quality issues, and implementing measures to prevent future issues.
Food safety: You will also be responsible for ensuring that the company's products are safe for consumption. This involves implementing and maintaining food safety management systems such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and ensuring that all employees are trained in food safety practices.
Compliance: As the Head of Technical, you will need to ensure that the company complies with all relevant regulations and standards such as the BRCGS (British Retail Consortium Global Standards) and other industry–specific regulations. This involves conducting regular audits and ensuring that all employees are trained on relevant regulations and standards.
New product development: You will be responsible for providing technical support to the new product development team, ensuring that all new products meet customer requirements and are feasible to manufacture. This includes developing product specifications, reviewing formulations, and conducting trials to ensure that the product meets quality and safety standards.
Supplier management: You will be responsible for ensuring that the company's suppliers meet the same quality and safety standards as the company. This involves conducting regular audits of suppliers, ensuring that all relevant documentation is up to date, and working with suppliers to address any quality or safety issues.
Continuous improvement: As the Head of Technical, you will need to continuously identify opportunities to improve the company's products, processes, and systems. This includes implementing new technologies or processes, developing new products or product lines, and identifying and addressing any inefficiencies or quality issues.
Documentation management: You will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up–to–date documentation related to quality, safety, compliance, and product specifications. This includes managing product specifications, maintaining records of quality checks and audits, and ensuring that all documentation is easily accessible and up to date.
