Operations Director

Are you an Operations Director wanting to join a Distribution/Manufacturing business who are doing this the way they've always done them now ready to make a change?

The board room table seats Commercial, Finance and IT experts but when it comes to Operations there is no guru, which is where you come in!

These guys are turning over nearly 30 million, have a presence in the UK and overseas and are growing year on year.

Their "manufacture in–house" to "Distribution" ratio is 25/75 therefore you will need to have a good understanding of manufacturing process, but your area of expertise will be in warehouse operations.

They are doing this without you, with outdated processes, a bottleneck in their supply chain and manufacturing, doing things "the way they've always done them" so what can they achieve with you on board?

You will go into the business from a helicopter view, what's working, what's not, looking at every department at all sites: for the first 3 months you will probably do nothing more than talk to people, taking notes of your observations, you will even be given the recent employee survey that has been completed; some of the ways things are done may not be the way you would do things, but that's the very reason you and your years of Operations experience are here!

During this induction period you will be visiting all sites, you will be able to see what works where, and if its working in Europe like that, why can't it work here in the UK in the same way, your goal is to bring in uniformed processes, where all parts of the business are singing from the same hymn sheet.

Once you have put together your observations, it's time for you to take action, you put together your proposals to the rest of your board members, there is no red tape here, you will find that getting sign off where you show a case for an improvement is no problem!

It's going to be a bit like a sticking plaster as you start to uncover how things are being done, and how fires are being fought, but once you get past that and get the rest of the business onboard with your ideas and plans the only way is forward!

They are looking to relocate their UK site imminently, you know what's involved in this, moving a business, its people, its capital equipment, and processes isn't an easy task, there are so many considerations you have to make to get this right!

As the Operational "go to" you love a challenge, you will get one here, they have long standing dedicated employees, you know that a lot of people don't like change and that's fine, you will either engage them or they will decide not to come on the journey!

Perhaps this is ringing bells? You've done just what I've described in the business you are currently in, but things are now running nice and smoothly, you need a new challenge to get your teeth stuck into? You are a fixer; you know how to look at strategy and get to the root of what really going on!

They have made massive investments into IT & Systems, these are being rolled out in the last quarter, they have high expectations of the impact that will make, you have an important part to play in this implementation too.

You will be rewarded with a competitive package of up to 100k made up of a salary of 80 – 90k either a car or car allowance and an impressive bonus and benefits package.
