Our Client is looking for a Associate Director Highways Engineer for their Cambridge office who is experienced in their craft and passionate about making a difference.
The company is a major industry player and the career progression opportunities offered are oustanding. Working within their Transportation department, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, including some of the largest strategic highways projects in the UK and some smaller developments, from concept through to end of life extension.
Their list of clients includes government departments, financial institutions, and private developers. They are world renowned for their provision of planning, designing, procuring, building, delivering, operating, and maintaining highway infrastructure, including through public private partnerships.

You will have the opportunity to develop and expand their local delivery teams and support the ongoing expansion of regional business opportunities within the strategic highways and local transport markets. You will also deputise for the regional Practice Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be the recognised leader of the sub regional area, successfully delivering client objectives and meeting internal performance and commercial targets.
- Be the recognised delivery lead for clients, providing knowledge, resources and being the first point of contact for escalation of issues and opportunities relating to delivery of services.
- Ensure compliance with internal technical and commercial governance processes.
- Assemble and guide multidisciplinary teams (using local, national and international resources) to deliver client and business objectives, meeting all agreed internal performance targets.
- Head a diverse portfolio of projects at any stage of the project development life cycle as Project Director or Project Manager.
- Provide guidance and leadership, ensuring the rigorous application of quality and governance processes.
- Embrace collaborative working and help to drive efficiency utilising existing and emerging technology and embedding new initiatives so that they become business as usual.
- Be an ambassador for driving continuous improvement and innovation, sharing knowledge and lessons learnt across the wider business.
- Be a line manager, role model and mentor for staff, being proactive in their career development and expanding the capabilities of the practice though continual upskilling.
- Support/prepare competitive bids and promote our clients' capabilities in the strategic highways and local transport markets.
Key Requirements:
- A member of an appropriate professional body (APM, ICE, RICS) or equivalent demonstrable experience in an appropriate industry sector.
- Can demonstrate experience of building effective, functional networks to enhance capability/capacity and create growth opportunities.
- Can demonstrate experience of strong and sustainable relationships with clients, based on understanding their requirements/aspirations, and working effectively with them to achieve their objectives.
- Have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Have highly developed interpersonal and supervisory skills with proven ability to build and motivate teams.
- Have strong presentation, negotiating and influencing skills.
- Are a pro–active decision maker with a confident, proficient operating style and an ability to deal easily with cultural diversity.
- Are a disciplined thinker with an analytical, numerate approach to problem solving, who has strategic judgement and the capacity to think complex issues through to develop effective solutions in a timely fashion.
- Are resourceful, articulate and a clear communicator who can influence others through the use of sound judgement.
- Can demonstrate experience of successfully operating within a target driven environment with an ability to work under pressure.
