Financial Controller role for successful business in St Helens paying c£65K.

Hays Senior Finance are working with an established and profitable business in St Helens who are looking to recruit a proven and experienced Financial Controller. This company has an interesting product mix and large customer base which has provided stability over the years and ensured they can continue to invest in modern equipment whilst also expanding their factories and warehouses.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director the responsibilities will include:
  • Development and management of the finance team, including coaching, performance monitoring and support for finance team
  • Ensure robust and timely financial accounting transactions/reporting. Including HMRC VAT deferment and Group VAT returns
  • Production of timely monthly management accounts, with insightful business performance analysis/commentary.
  • Development of bottom up budget & forecasting processes across all departments.
  • Develop effective business relationships and communication across the business to liaise proactively in reporting on Product Costings, Labour Rate Recovery, Stock-holding and Distribution/Supply Chain efficiency operating on an ERP systems platform.
  • Cashflow control, including forging a direct trusted relationship with the Bank.
  • Treasury management of both Euro and Dollar foreign exchange purchases,
  • Year end statutory accounts preparation, and management of the audit.
  • Overall, to operate as a respected key member of the hands-on Management Team to ensure the ongoing successful operation and future growth plans of the business.
  • Preparation management accounts and reporting for a small property business.


The successful candidate profile:
  • Qualified level accountant or QBE with broad, hands-on financial management/reporting experience, ideally in a similar SME Manufacturing environment reporting to the Owners / Shareholders.
  • A confident Manager who is both technically sound and also able to demonstrate wider commercial/business understanding.
  • High personal and professional standards, someone who takes pride in managing the Finance team to deliver accurate and meaningful "right first time" information/reports and also keen to play a full role/involvement in liaising effectively across the business.
