Looking for a new challenge in finance? We're seeking a talented Financial Controller to join a growing team in Paisley! If you're a numbers whiz with experience in financial management and reporting, and ready to take on a new role with plenty of responsibility, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
This is a 12–month fixed–term contract with the scope to lead to a permanent opportunity following a successful placement, however, naturally this cannot be guaranteed at this time. Full–time and part–time hours can be considered for this role, depending on candidate requirements.
What you will get in your new role
- Competitive salary depending on experience
- Time in lieu
- Attractive annual leave package
- Flexibility with working hours
- Volunteer day
- Birthday day off
- Company team–building events
- Standard hours are 9am until 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, however, there can be flexibility around this to suit both the individual and the business needs
Your new employer
At the very heart of Paisley lies a family–run business that you will soon become a part of. The organisation emphasises the value of the input of each and every one of its employees, which is why they prioritise active listening and encourage the sharing of innovative ideas. The team culture is one of support and collaboration, where everyone's unique perspectives are valued and considered.
Responsibilities within your new role
As the Financial Controller, you will be a skilled negotiator, able to handle difficult conversations with ease. In addition, you will participate in board meetings and be comfortable presenting financial figures and insights to others.
You will also be responsible for developing, preparing, and publishing timely monthly management accounts, as well as developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. You will implement and monitor quality controls over financial transactions and financial reporting, and coordinate and prepare budgets and financial forecasts.
To measure the performance of the business, you will develop financial and commercial KPIs as part of a monthly management reporting. Furthermore, you will support the month–end and year–end close process and coordinate the preparation of year–end statutory accounts and tax returns with external advisors. Additionally, you will review and submit the quarterly VAT returns and manage and comply with local and government reporting requirements and corporation tax filings.
Your personality, experience and qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role will possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position, specifically in creating and reviewing financial statements, managing general ledger functions, and handling the month–end and year–end closing process, with both partially and fully qualified individuals being encouraged to apply. A strong understanding of accounting principles and procedures is necessary, along with the ability to effectively utilise accounting software (preferably Sage and Xero), as well as advanced Excel skills being highly desired.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a small team of two, making previous experience in a managerial role essential. Finally, the role requires processing a small payroll for our client and their associated businesses.
