The company are engaging with key clients with opportunities across the group. There is a requirement for this role to manage and coordinate these opportunities across the group and to provide a controlling mind. As Key Account Development Director, you'll be responsible for managing the group programme of opportunities, and being the key interface with the client, contributing to the development and execution of major opportunities across the group, and/or specific large technical programmes of work with contract values in excess of c.GBP500M. You will lead the business vision and strategy; supporting successful opportunities to enable growth through divisional project teams. This role reports to the Director of Major Projects

This role will be primarily focused on Early–stage project development. The Key Account Development Director has responsibility for projects execution and delivery in a matrix environment – identifying and managing client requirements, stakeholders and third–party engagements (including partnering arrangements internally and externally) to achieve optimal delivery to the point of handover. This includes understanding key route to markets for major programs of work, proposition development and execution for large technical projects, development/ implementation of practices to manage and measure effective project delivery and ownership of financial targets.

This will also include the development, refinement and execution of projects to meet or exceed the project objectives and economic measures approved at respective Large Capital Project Governance Framework Gates, and as identified within the Project Development Plan during Development and Refinement phases and the Project Execution Plan during the Execution phase.

You will need to develop and maintain strong working relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, including supply chain partners, to positively influence and impact upon the delivery of the Project and wider business objectives.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally need to:

  • Possess extensive experience in developing projects from the early stages of project development.
  • Demonstrate experience operating at a senior leadership level within the energy/ utilities market, managing high value projects/ programs of work. Whilst a project management certification/ degree would be desirable, it isn't essential.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of project management systems and governance arrangements for development and execution of large capital projects.
  • Have experience delivering large project joint–venture agreements, extensive contract management & negotiation exposure within matrix environments
  • Strong and demonstrable experience of preparation, negotiation, and execution of complex agreements, especially in a multi contract delivery model environment with individual contract values in excess of GBP100M.
  • Understand critical success factors associated with project management and deliverables, including risk (and by extension risk assessments) and timelines/ deadlines
  • Build engaged & resilient teams that are capable of supporting large projects' program of works
  • Have experience of working with Rail, MOD, and similar types of organisations.
  • Communicate and manage the expectations of a range of internal and external stakeholders, at times making sure technical information is presented accurately and effectively understood by the audience.
