A well–established independent building services consultancy is seeking a Director level candidate to head up their M&E design team.
The Role
- To develop and effectively manage the building services engineering team within the company to ensure projects are delivered technically correct and on time, whilst achieving the budget GP profit level.
- Deliver a cascade plan annually (Oct) with key deliverables, targets, both operationally and financially.
- Building a professional integrated engineering team that is focused on collaboration as a key element for success.

Accountabilities
- Meet and exceed client expectations.
- Understanding requirements of clients brief
- Deliver projects on time and budget.
- Quality of project documentation
- Develop and deliver an appropriate business unit strategy that contributes to organisational strategic objectives.
- Manage and meet department budget.
- Secure new work to meet revenue budget in conjunction with the Head of Design – Client Development.
- Complete work in time frame and within budget / RIBA work stages
- Review and management of time sheets on a weekly basis
- Management of expenses monthly
- Ensuring project profitability on a weekly basis
- Identify and pursue additional fees due to changes of brief (DCO) monthly.
- Lead the Design team – create and maintain a team that consistently performs to the highest level and meets team performance targets.
- Recruit the right people at the right time.
- Develop and motivate the team to perform at continually improving levels and in line with core values.
- Create the culture, conditions, and environment to retain talented staff.
- Conduct regular 1:1 and annual appraisals.
Financial
- Setup and manage all project costs using Access Acloud, billing sheets etc.
- Manage own time spent on projects to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Monitor individual project progress against expected fee spend.
- Carry out invoicing monthly against project progress.
- Pursue all outstanding sales ledger debtors (45 days maximum target)
- Review project costs and pursue additional fees for changes to scope.
- Ensure all projects are delivered on time and within fee budget.
- Authorize staff timesheets– Access.
Performance Indicators
- Achieve turnover for Design against budget.
- Achieve gross profit for Design against budget.
- Achieve chargeable time against budget.
- Reduce and maintain Accidents and Near Misses to targeted levels
- Accuracy of briefs and tenders to ensure projects are delivered within cost and time projections.
- Client satisfaction and repeat projects by delivering consistently high–quality service.
