EMBS Engineering is working exclusively with our longstanding partner who is recognised for their advanced manufacturing capabilities, supporting some of the markets most lucrative customers.

Our client is a market leader in manufacturing small to medium, sub assembly machined and fabricated components for corporate giants such as Rolls Royce.

Due to their innovative and forward–thinking ethos, an opportunity has come available due to x2 internal promotions, demonstrating their commitment to developing their employees.
As a result of the above, they are seeking an experienced Quality Manager / Head of Quality to join their business on a permanent basis at their site in Nottinghamshire.

The purpose of this role is to lead and manage the strategic and operational performance of the Quality department, ensuring the successful delivery of business strategy, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and objectives, whilst adhering to regulatory compliance and achieving commercial success.
You will ensure the efficient and effective day to day running of department.

As Head of Quality, you will be overseeing the entire quality department which consists of 17 personnel, including Lead Engineers, Technicians, Inspectors, and CMM Programmers, therefore, the ability to manage, delegate and upskill is extremely important.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Implementing and monitoring all Quality Assurance systems to ensure compliance with all customer and regulatory requirements including AS 9100 implementation and possible next generation standards
  • To use Continuous Improvement (CI) to the benefit of the quality department and the business as a whole
  • Developing and implementing the Quality department s strategy, to ensure it meets the business requirements and customer deliverables, as well as ensuring the departmental performance against goals
  • Ensuring the development of departmental SOPs (writing, revising and approving), ensuring regulatory compliance in conjunction with being fit for purpose operationally and commercially
  • Ensuring that there is an audit program in place that is communicated to all departments
  • Preparing, reviewing and approving Technical and Quality Agreements
  • Ensuring that the supplier and subcontractor audits are performed and reported as scheduled
  • Coordinating a full review of the inspection department ensuring that there is a self inspection program in place which is communicated to all departments to meet the requirements of both AS 9100, ISO 9001, and all customer required standards
  • Ensuring appropriate investigation of discrepancies, errors, complaints, failures or adverse events requiring documented review and action (if necessary, interrupting processes causing material to be quarantined or placed on hold until matters are resolved)
  • Managing, motivating, coaching and mentoring staff to higher levels of management capability
  • High level resource planning
  • Ensuring that the Quality department meets or improves on budget, cost, volume and efficiency targets (KPIs) in line with business objectives
  • Oversee all contract review activities and integrate the role of technical engineer into the quality department/function ensuring all Rolls Royce routing and procedural compliance
  • Overseeing customer and regulatory audits/inspections, as required
  • Maintaining and improving departmental operational performance and efficiency, to meet the requirements of regulatory authorities, customer standards including documentation accuracy, reviewing and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and external and internal customers, with respect to quality, service, lead time and cost
  • Implementing and maintaining a Quality Risk Management system to ensure that risks are adequately controlled in accordance with current requirements
  • Overseeing all Quality matters, both internally and externally

KPI's:

You will be measured on the KPI's at each management meeting including COQ, RFT both documentation and parts at Inspection.


Successful applicants MUST be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong Quality Management background – Ideally Head of Quality or 5 years + Quality Management experience
  • Worked within precision engineering / advanced manufacturing industries – aerospace, automotive, motorsport, defence, nuclear, petrochemical, sub sea, oil & gas
  • Internal / External Auditing experience
  • Previously worked to AS9100 standards
  • Ability to implement Quality Management Systems
  • Strong Continuous Improvement background
  • Ability to upskill and mentor developing engineers
  • Capabilities to work to KPI's


Desirable:

  • Worked with machined components
  • Knowledge of SC21 standards
  • Six Sigma – Green or Black belt
  • Certified Lead Auditor
