Managing Director – Spider is advertising on behalf of a highly successful family business, based near Colchester, Essex with a turnover of GBP20M+ and a great reputation in its sector. The company designs, manufactures & installs prestressed and precast concrete products as well as specialist precast and helical stairs, ground beams, stadiums, and car parks.

Reporting to the Group Chairman, the Managing Director will have fantastic leadership skills and develop and motivate their people to succeed whilst understanding commercial issues and managing risks. You will need to ensure the smooth day–to–day running of the business and focus on delivering their strategic objectives. You will be committed to building upon and delivering their culture & values and be willing to roll your sleeves up if things get tough! Does this sound like the role for you?

The purpose of the Managing Director role is to ensure targets are met, to champion Health and Safety and deliver the strategic goals of the business which include developing our people, meeting environment & sustainability targets, building a culture of community engagement and optimising financial performance.

You won t need in–depth industry knowledge but you do need production, manufacturing or construction experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of Health & Safety.
  • Full P&L responsibility, reporting to the Group Chairman.
  • Operations ensure the smooth day–to–day running of the operation, add value to management team and ensure all targets are met.
  • Customer experience bring the voice of the customer into the business.
  • Leadership & Development focus on helping people succeed throughout the business and ensure robust leadership succession into the future.
  • Represent the company to shareholders and other stakeholders, including financial institutions.
  • Deliver strategic objectives including around sustainability and environment.
  • Ensure that the company remains a great place to work with a strong brand reputation amongst stakeholders and the communities in which it works.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong background, at senior or board level, ideally in production, manufacturing or construction. Will consider candidates who can demonstrate senior level management experience in sales, logistics and contracts management.
  • Experience of using financial and other data sources to drive decision making.
  • Ability to spot opportunities for the future and experience of delivering operational improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills including written and spoken business English.
  • Flexibility to travel around Essex and the South East, full Driving licence required.

  • Influential & Persuasive at all levels, including board level management team.
  • Solutions orientation, able to problem solve and take on operational & production challenges with a positive outlook.

  • Good communicator and listener, able to take others views on board .

This Managing Director position is a Full–Time position. On offer is an excellent salary package up to GBP120,000 per annum depending on experience, potential Bonus of 4– 40% dependent on company performance, company car or car allowance, company pension contribution of 8%, private medical cover for family, on–site staff canteen and 25 days annual leave.
