Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting an award–winning, national, multi–disciplinary consultancy on the hire of a Director of Masterplanning!

The company forms part of a larger group of companies that is an employee owned trust, meaning the successful candidate will become a staff owner.

The business has a steady and growing workload and are in the process of expanding and strengthening its design team(s). Currently, they are promoting a variety of projects, ranging from strategic and detailed masterplans for mixed developments of up to 2500 dwellings, design coding for both residential and commercial schemes of varying scales, large–scale developments for PRS and 'Elderly Living', preparing testing and detailed layouts for schemes of up to 500 units, landscape master plans and greenspace plans, as well as detailed designs for small developments, including 'exceptional design' homes, school refurbishments and extensions, new build projects and a growing portfolio of commercial schemes of many types.

In this role, you will work with a broad client base that ranges from 'blue chip' companies, public sector organisations, national housebuilders, developers and investors and a range of private clients.

An opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Master Planner, Urban Designer and/or Architect with significant post qualification experience to take on the leadership of the master–planning and urban design function and grow and develop this as part of the multi–disciplinary professional offer.

The successful candidate will be part of the management team and will also have an input into the management of the wider group, as well as, professionally, a significant role in joint working with the wider planning and design teams.

The candidate should have a strong urban design/master planning background in the relevant sectors and be able to lead and advise upon the preparation of large–scale masterplans and urban design studies with planning consultants and others, as well as work at a more intimate scale on challenging sites and schemes. There will be an opportunity also to provide expert witness services at planning appeals.

The appointed candidate will be a good communicator as the role will require both professional and business advocacy, and experience in these are areas would be a distinct advantage. You should have good managerial skills and experience in client liaison and business development, managing staff and project resources, preparing fee proposals, running project teams, participating in public consultations with stakeholder and community groups and in design reviews.
