We are recruiting for a Part–time Assistant Financial Business partner for a well–established Housing Association in Manchester. Paying up to GBP28K (FTE) GBP16 800 (pro rata) plus 25 days holiday (increasing with service), pension, and agile working. The role will be 21 hours per week and can be over 5 days or condensed over a 3–day period. You will need to be commutable to Manchester for business–critical meetings and these will be office–based.

THE JOB

The overall purpose of the Assistant Finance Business Partner is to support the Finance Business Partners and Financial Reporting Manager in providing proactive financial support and advice to budget holders based on a sound understanding of the relevant business area. The post is key to the relationship with budget holders, and is customer–facing, providing the conduit between the Finance team and the operational side of the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • To provide support and input into annual budgets, including profiling and phasing, challenging any new requests or increases in budgets proposed by budget holders against efficiency plans
  • To maintain and refresh the chart of the accounts for the relevant business area in line with business requirements
  • To assist in the preparation of timely management accounts for the relevant business area, in accordance with the monthly management accounts timetable
  • To assist the budget holders in the accurate reforecasting of their budgets throughout the year
  • To carry out or support monthly meetings with budget holders for the relevant business area to discuss their management accounts
  • To document and provide a summary commentary of the operational reasons for variances based on the monthly meeting, for inclusion in the management accounts
  • To carry out control account reconciliations including monthly prepayment and accruals for the relevant business area
  • To be responsible for review of monthly account codes, identifying and correcting errors via journals, and providing advice and guidance to budget holders and other operational staff, regarding the importance of correct coding
  • To undertake monthly tasks in a timely way including the posting of journals and the preparation of monthly reconciliations, to ensure adherence to the monthly closedown timetable
  • To contribute to the production of statutory accounts, corporation tax, VAT and regulatory returns, in accordance with the agreed timetable, and to liaise with the external auditors in the provision of clear working papers and information

THE PERSON

You will be experienced in Accounts, with rounded experience and strong Excel skills. AAT level or a similar finance qualification is beneficial but not essential, but the desire to learn and develop and adapt to this varied role is a must. You will be a strong communicator, able to communicate financial information to both finance and non–finance colleagues alike. Deadline–driven with a common–sense approach.
