Job Title: Head of Signalling
Location: Longbridge, Birmingham
Duration: Permanent
Salary: 80,000 – 100,000 per annum

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Signalling to manage our client's UK and offshore signalling Engineering business, continuing to grow and expand our teams based in the Midlands (Birmingham), Hyderabad (India) and Bangalore (India).

The Head of Signalling role will require regular travel within the UK and occasionally international.

The head of signalling role will manage the signalling engineering team in the UK and be accountable for the engineering centre performance, overall delivery of projects, safety, internal audits, compliance, engineering briefings, R&D and allocation and recruitment of resources.

The candidate will also support the business lead in implementing the overall business plan and supporting the businesses P&L and manage the IRSE agency.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Accountable for the health, safety and welfare of all staff working on the projects.
Support the business P&L, produce financial forecasts and budgets, and ensure engineering function delivers to them.
Manage the resource planning to ensure the optimum recruitment, retention, and utilisation of resources
Owns the client relationship(s).
Accountable for quality of the output from the engineering function
Provision of technical guidance and mentorship of engineering team and support team members growth and personal development and goals.
Business planning and work winning in support of the strategy and business plans, including the production of new tenders.
Lead internal audits and support external audits.
Manage the business unit compliance and competency through the IRSE licencing agency.
Undertake the role of CRE (Signalling Design).
As required, undertake the verification of railway signalling designs, specifications, reports and working drawings using first principles for relevant parts of a new or altered signalling systems, ensuring compliance with all contractual and statutory requirements.

Essential & Desirable Requirements:
Proven experience of Signalling
Preferred degree/or Masters in an appropriate subject
Preferred Chartered status held with an appropriate professional body
Experience of managing teams
Ideally will hold IRSE Principles, Verifier and/or Design Manager Licence
Experience of acting as Design CRE and CEM role on Network Rail projects
Membership/Fellow of a recognised relevant professional body
Knowledge of the Engineering Sector (Railway Signalling)
Able to lead a technical team against project challenges related to quality, cost, programme and health, safety and welfare
Able to work collaboratively alongside other business units within a culture of knowledge sharing and general cooperation
Manage the resource planning to ensure the optimum recruitment, retention, and utilisation of quality resources
Knowledge and experience of business planning and strategy
