Our client Envision are an established, rapidly expanding manufacturing business currently looking to recruit an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join their team.

This role would suit an Automation/Software engineer or someone from a production/software background in manufacturing, who is looking to train on new software/automation platforms and grow with a specialist industry leading company.

Overall Purpose:

  • Achieve agreed Engineering KPI's & Targets, on schedule and within budget, for the development & manufacture of battery cells & modules.
  • Demonstrate the application of key engineering tools, techniques and control system design methodologies to deliver world class quality performance levels of site systems and equipment. Ensure seamless integration of site PLC, SCADA, OT networks, data acquisition and the associated equipment infrastructure.
  • Drive new innovative automation solutions, defining the relevant systems strategy to achieve high–quality consistency and operation excellence.

Key Duties:

  • Demonstrate proven skills in the application of systems engineering tools and techniques to deliver world class quality performance levels.
  • Work as an integral part of a multi–discipline cross functional team.
  • Set and measure system performance KPIs which are class leading, challenging but achievable.
  • Provide operational support of global IT & OT equipment integration, focusing on MES, Traceability, AIoT (smart factory) technology and data logging.
  • Provide operational support of site building management systems/energy management systems (BMS/EMS) including system integration and development.
  • Liaising with outside suppliers or developers to source the most effective hardware or software solution in line with the business's needs.
  • Co–ordination of concern investigation, specification gap analysis and root cause analysis.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to users within the company and outside customers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Prepare documentation for a program/application's intended use as well as any safety related instructions.
  • Support project specific safety documentation to relevant standard requirements; IEC61508, IEC61511 and EN ISO.13849.
  • Building robust backups that can be assessed in the event of a system failure.
  • Demonstrate excellence in the programming of PLC. HMI and SCADA applications, supporting system concept system design including drafting diagrams and sourcing components.
  • Determine test criteria for FAT, SAT and PT.
  • Test new applications within automation equipment for reliability and safety compliance.
  • Be responsible for testing programs, applications and equipment developed by third party suppliers.
  • Compile test data and check specifications are met.
  • Provide fine–tuning of the productivity and dependability of an application during FAT, SAT and PT.

Key Skills, Experience & Qualifications Required:

  • Degree/HND/HNC and/or 5 years relevant experience in Electrical/Control Engineering.
  • Planning, schedule control & project management.
  • Good written, verbal communication and negotiation skills.
  • Good knowledge of SPC and controls.
  • Experience of designing and integrating complex data systems.
  • Knowledge of MES and traceability.
  • Possess knowledge of Electrical Engineering and the standards associated.
  • Have a strong understanding of the design principles related to electrical systems and software engineering.
  • Be able to write software code from 'scratch' with minimal additional support. Using LDR, SCL and FBD logic.
  • Possess strong analytical reasoning skills that allow you to troubleshoot and avoid problems.
  • Experience of one of the following PLC platforms (Mitsubishi IQ–R, Siemens S7–1200/1500 or Omron CJ/NJ/NX).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of mass–manufacturing automatic systems including experience with motion, vision, robotic, sensing technologies and the associated data acquisition of those systems.
  • Experience with the control of reliable safety system for safeguarding robots, conveyors and other high–volume manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of field bus network protocols between PLCs and equipment instruments such as (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, CC–Link, EtherCAT). Also, knowledge of serial communication protocols such as (RS–232, RS–485) would be advantageous.
  • Must have a well–defined methodology for maintaining code structure and organization through the use of standardization methodologies.
  • Proven ability to design fault–tolerant system with error handling and recovery.
  • Ability to program machines for complex processes which involve multi–station parallel processing, pick and place automation, data acquisition and PID control.
