Chief Accountant

Role: Chief Accountant
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Location: Remote with occasional office visits to Rochford
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: Market Rate

Spinwell is recruiting for a Chief Accountant for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

• Help with budget setting and monitoring & reporting
• Support/advice to managers on capital projects, including UK Shared Prosperity Fund
• Support the work to establish a Business Improvement District
• Financial support to the corporate work to bring together the respective teams of all the services in the two councils
• Review of internal financial rules/regulations to harmonise across the two councils
• Supervise staff and manage financial processes
• General support as directed by the Finance Manager to assist where needed to set budgets, budget monitoring and plug gaps in the team caused by vacancies

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

• Essential to have meaningful local government finance experience
• Able to start as soon as possible
• Willing to complete detailed spreadsheet work (Excel) and manipulate financial data from systems
• OK to work remotely but ideally with scope to visit the offices on occasion
• Some level of accounting qualification, but full qualification not required.
