IT Business Relationship Manager, Head of IT, Higher Education, Faculty Head of Digital Enablement – OUTSIDE IR35Your new company2 x Interim Faculty Heads of Digital Enablement / Business Relationship Managers required to work through a consultancy services organisation to support their Higher Education end client in transforming the relationship between the IT service and two different academic faculties.Your new roleYou will be the key point of interaction between the IT service and senior stakeholders in the faculty with overall responsibility for IT service delivery into the faculties which include over 1500 staff. The role of 'Faculty Head of Digital Enablement' is a business relationship management role, liaising with the Director of Customer and Employee Engagement, within Digital Service, with a dotted line to the Faculty Operations Director. It is also a member of the Digital Service IT Executive Team, representing the faculty in strategic and operational discussions; and works on a day–to–day basis with the Faculty Operations Director and Managers (FODMs) community.

  • The focus of the role is to negotiate, facilitate and oversee the overall delivery of Digital Service and projects within the faculty. The post holder will demonstrate skills in facilitation and the ability to lead, plan and execute IT initiatives, communicating decisions, priorities and relevant project information regarding services.
  • You will have the gravitas to able to help change the way the relationship between the IT Service and faculties is perceived and managed and contribute to development of new operating model for IT relationship management.
  • Additional responsibilities include providing highly valued strategic consultancy, serving as a "trusted adviser" and primary point of contact for planning and executing business IT initiatives, solution discovery and relationship management.
  • In terms of operational services, the role will coordinate the Service Management team including the Service Delivery Managers, to deliver management information about the performance of Digital Service to the Faculty in an agreed format and cadence; and promote the Customer Success Management team, for Faculty based escalations and feedback.
  • A key outcome of this role is two–way communication, across Digital Service and the Faculty. The role advocates on behalf of the business stakeholders as well as promoting the IT vision, benefits, services and capabilities required to meet business priorities and needs.
  • The role will also coordinate the creation of an annual plan for the faculty, bringing in subject matter experts from within Digital Service to help facilitate the creation of this plan.
  • The role currently has no direct operational responsibilities; however, this is under review as part of the implementation of a new IT Operating Model (ITOM). Our client is implementing Faculty aligned support teams and are currently deciding how the Faculty Head of IT role will influence and shape this.

What you'll need to succeedThe role will suit someone with significant experience of working in IT management roles and leading IT teams delivering a range of IT services; possibly gained at a departmental, divisional or regional level within a larger organisation or you will have carried out a Senior IT Business Relationship Manager / Head of IT role in large complex environments previously.The University IT service provides specialist and commodity, on–site and cloud IT services to the Faculties to collect, analyse, store and distribute large volume scientific data. IT supports personal and laboratory (connected to advanced instrumentation) IT; a large range of academic and specialist commercial applications; windows, linux and mac platforms; high volume storage and high–performance computing to over 1500 staff and nearly 13,000 students in these Faculties so experience of similar technology offerings is a must.

  • You will have a deep and broad technical understanding enabling you converse technically about infrastructure & technical architecture breaking it down into layman's terms where required.
  • Ability to engage with senior academic stakeholders and scientific researchers; and be able to understand requirements and translate these into proposals and business cases for innovative IT solutions.
  • Experience of working in Senior / Director / Head of level IT roles within an engineering, technology, scientific or environmental organisation; or within a higher education research–intensive Universities.
  • Able to work on and prioritise a wide portfolio of activity; negotiate to achieve desired outcomes; able to resolve problems using own and engaging others expertise.
  • Able to lead. Influence and motivate IT teams not under direct line management to make a positive impact on service provision
