THE COMPANY

One of the largest passenger airlines in the UK, undergoing a huge re–platforming and tech infrastructure project to completely revolutionise the company. The company has strong plans for the growth of its business over the next five years, as well as continued investment in improving its data teams.

THE ROLE

As a Chief of Data Engineering, you can expect to define the approach to data engineering to deliver the current and future business goals of the company.

In specific, you can expect to be involved in the following:

  • Set the data engineering strategy for the company around the way we ingest data sources to support our business.
  • Be the data engineering lead on our cloud migration programme, to meet business objectives and programme deliverables, defining the data engineering policies and frameworks required.
  • Work with wider Data & Automation leadership team to deliver departmental strategy including delivery of transformation initiatives.
  • Work with the Insights and Innovation team to ensure alignment of data and analysis solutions.
  • Manage relationships with architects to ensure frameworks meet architectural standards
  • Liaise closely with Tech and data governance and management decisions.
  • Provide data engineering recommendations with optimum solutions, supported with roadmaps.
  • Provide the structure of a quality assurance process taking the best of what the company already does
  • Recruit and nurture a specialist team of internal resources – with external expert resource contracted as required – to deliver first–lass data engineering
  • Ensure awareness of new tools and technical capabilities within the data industry. Support trials, POC's and RFP's as required to assess potential for use in the business.
  • Manage relationships with third party suppliers.
  • Assess potential for change, risk and impact when proposing change to data engineering frameworks.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEThe successful Data Scientist will have the following skills and experience:

  • Data Management Technology – exploitation of efficient enterprise data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, and SQL
  • Excellent knowledge of data pipeline delivery through CI/CD tools like Github
  • Data Modelling – Creation of conceptual, logical and physical data models
  • Change management – confident managing complexity and planning through change
  • Stakeholder Management – management of complex stakeholder relationships across the company, required to gain acceptance of target solution architecture
  • Consistent leadership role in designing and/or producing high complexity Data & BI solutions and growing and developing Data Engineering teams
  • Supplier Management – management of 3rd party suppliers
