Head of Legal (Employment Law)
The Royal College of Nursing requires a Head of Legal (Employment) on a temporary basis to advise their members on the full range of employment–related matters. This role is suited to a Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive, or Barrister with an expert knowledge of employment law.
Although this role can be home–based, some visits to the office will be required.
The successful person will be expected to represent the RCN members in respect of employment legal support, providing advice and guidance to both the members and the officers of the Royal College of Nursing and preparing and conducting cases before the Employment Tribunal, the Employment Appeal Tribunal and the civil courts on behalf of RCN members. Where appropriate arranging representation by barristers and instructing experts is also required.
Essential to this role, is the ability to:
Advise and represent members on all aspects of employment law
Work and make decisions independently, under supervision where appropriate
Use excellent communication, written and presentation skills
Use Microsoft Office Packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, internet and diary software to an intermediate level
Advise on contentious and non–contentious matters
Ideally, candidates will have previous experience of:
Advising on employment matters within a healthcare setting
Advising trade union members
Working in an in–house environment

A salary equivalent to GBP72k (FT annual salary), which could be GBP76k if based in London
