WHAT YOU'LL DO

Infrastructure, travel, transportation, cities and logistics form a significant and very dynamic part of the global economy. Massive amounts of public and private capital are flowing into physical infrastructure upgrades as well as sweeping changes driven by digitization and the climate transition. Very significant public and private entities exist in this space with bold ambitions over the coming decade. These topics also have far-reaching effects in areas such as climate resilience, holistic liveability, sustainable mobility and equality.

To better serve our clients in these spaces, we are creating a new dedicated industry practice area - the Infrastructure, Travel, Transportation, Cities & Logistics (formal name pending) Practice Area. This practice will not only serve specific clients in these spaces (e.g., Construction, Real Estate, Shipping/Logistics, Airports, Airlines, Rail, Road, Leisure Travel) , but will also collaborate closely with our Public Sector practice and Infrastructure Investors sector. We believe that c reating this practice area is another step forward in living our purpose - unlocking the potential of those who advance the world.

The Global Practice Management Director (GPMD) works with the Practice Area Leader (PAL) and the Practice Leadership Team to lead and manage the ITTCL practice. The GPMD is crucial in driving the development of the practice across all domains - strategy, people, knowledge, IP development, marketing, finance, etc. Working closely with regional leadership teams to ensure strategic and operational alignment around recruiting, development and deployment of the practice's consulting and expert staff, they will also participate in and/or lead internal investment projects, manage the ITTCL practice Management & Operations Team and oversee the growing Knowledge Team.

The ideal candidate would be an internal candidate or alumnus, with exceptionally strong leadership, communication, high energy and drive, high organization skills, as well as experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing global and virtual environment. We are looking for someone who has an appreciation for this industry space and a passion to be involved in building a new practice with high growth aspirations.

YOU'RE GOOD AT

The Global Director's responsibilities cover all aspects of Practice Management working primarily with the global Practice Area Leader, as well as with the regional practice leaders, sector/segment leaders, and other ITTCL Leadership Team members. Key domains and corresponding activities include:

Business development, strategy and monitoring
  • Formulates practice strategy in partnership with the PAL and the practice leadership team and helps on executing strategic initiatives as agreed
  • Orchestrates and contributes to discussions on priorities and direction setting for the PA
  • Works with PA and Leaders to develop and drive the overall strategic plan for the PA
  • Manages the day-to-day operations, administration, HR, and all planning cycles for the practice
  • Designs and prepares business reviews and analyses to support business planning discussions
  • Requests and integrates inputs from topic business owners and regional leaders into overall Practice plan development
  • Participates with PAL in the development of key client and content agenda
  • Monitors overall PA budgets
  • Work closely with leaders of other practice areas, particularly Public Sector, Industrial Goods, and Consumer Products where collaboration required
  • Often serves as a key interface for the PA with multiple other functions, e.g., finance, accounting, HR, legal, operations, marketing
Intellectual capital development and dissemination
  • Leads the development of the overall investment / research plan for the practice and governs the investment budget
  • Oversees the execution of investment plan and projects; effectively leveraging their outcomes (dissemination, commercial exploitation)
  • Coordinates development of and monitors practice investments
  • Participates in or leads internal projects, where appropriate
  • Prepares conferences and materials on ITTCL related issues
  • Provides input and oversight as part of select Steering Committees
  • Ultimately responsible for the administration, tracking and use of the PA budget for Tier One investments
Cross-practice area responsibilities
  • Participates in Global Practice Management Director calls and meetings regarding PAL agenda initiatives
  • Contributes on sub-teams and committees formed to address identified opportunities
  • Provides data and analysis relating to cross-PA issues
  • Communicates policy outcomes from PAL group decisions to relevant practice constituents
Network connectivity and training
  • Organizes activities fostering greater connectivity of practice members and other stakeholders
  • Oversees the preparation of global and regional meetings, including agenda development and organization, in collaboration with PAL, RPALs and Sector Leaders
  • Oversees the coordination of our virtual training program, internal/external marketing, and product/tool development
  • Oversees development and coordination of client events
  • Proposes additional sharing/training activities
  • Organizes activities fostering greater connectivity of Practice members at all levels
Oversight of the ITTCL Knowledge Team
  • Works with the Knowledge Team to drive and adapt the operating model to meet business needs
  • Ensures alignment between the PA strategy and the resources allocation and prioritization
  • Oversees the KT leader who is responsible for day-to-day management and career development of the Knowledge Team, including hiring and team expertise/location/approach strategy
  • Overall responsibility, with the KT leader, for the KT and for our investments in Products, Data and Tools: development, quality of support, deployment, billability, etc.
  • Participates, as needed, in key management activities: e.g. performance reviews
  • Collaborates with the Knowledge Practice, including the GSB People Team, to ensure consistency with global KT management processes and compliance with local specificities

Other
  • Supports PAL on firm initiatives as required
  • Supports regional leaders, local nodes and topic leaders as required
  • Participates in cross-PA projects as required
YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)

Education and experience
  • MBA or other Masters degree preferred
  • Significant BCG experience preferred, ideally in the consulting staff (equivalent to a Principal or Partner) or in a related SM position
  • 10+ years experience including line management
  • Experience with Social Impact topics preferred, passion for and interest in climate & sustainability required
