Job Profile Summary The Head of Offshore Wind Transmission Engineering is the global lead responsible for the offshore wind farms transmission system strategy, design, selection, contract and management of the delivery of the offshore substations, export cable, onshore substations, SCADA and telecommunications systems in all the OFW projects during the whole life cycle.

This role may be based out of Sunbury, London or Aberdeen dependent on the right candidate. We may also be able to explore alternative office locations on a case–by–case basis
Job Advert Key Accountabilities:
  • Develop, manage and train a capable team of engineers to cover all business and projects needs on the transmission systems, electrical design and SCADA and telecommunications systems.
  • Develop transmission systems, electrical design and SCADA and telecommunications systems technology roadmap and strategy, including respective innovation and demonstration projects and technology assessments.
  • Develop transmission systems, electrical design and SCADA and telecommunications systems technical specification and development plans to partner with procurement and manage the delivery of transmission systems, managing the transmission packages in projects.
  • Conduct quality controls and manufacturing expediting of transmission systems components (e.g., inspect electrical equipment meet reliability and durability requirements).
  • Sign off on technology selection, project assumptions, suppliers selection, transmission contract and technical decisions.
  • Develop and optimise global electrical design, electrical system studies and grid connections.
  • Be responsible for building, training and leading a capable team to manage transmission systems, electrical design and SCADA and telecommunications systems.
  • Be responsible for developing and implementing the transmission methodology and for identifying, processing and implementing transmission knowledge and lessons learnt.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that bp is selecting, contracting and delivering transmission systems that minimise project LCoE.

Desired Experience:
  • Considerable experience with transmission systems, with a minimum of 2 projects past experience in offshore wind.
  • Deep understanding of electrical systems of an offshore wind farm (electrical system studies, substations, main electrical equipment, cables design, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of control and communication systems (SCADA, control, telecommunications, metering )
  • Deep understanding of commercial and contractual aspects of transmission supply contracts (offshore/onshore substations, export cables, main electrical equipment).
  • Project management experience, both in transmission packages and project management methodologies. Proven track record of responsiblity for multi–million contracts in various projects.
  • Strong management and leadership experience and skills – equipped to motivate, engage and drive high performance
  • Strategic skills and capable to represent bp with high level management of transmission suppliers.


If successful, you will:
  • Be part of the Offshore Wind Engineering leadership team and coordinate works with the rest of Engineering disciplines.
  • Work with multi–located and multi–disciplinary teams locally and globally in offshore wind and across bp.
  • Work with procurement, legal, business development and project management teams to develop the offshore foundations packages of the projects.
  • Technically support in the relationship with the Transmission System Operators.
