This privately owned company has enjoyed steady growth and is on target to achieve GBP9m turnover for y/e22/23. Operating in a niche area of the construction sector they are a leading commercial and industrial contractor providing products and services to a range of customers in the public and private sectors. By working closely with manufacturers they are able to offer a comprehensive suite of solutions and have a reputation for quality and value delivered with integrity. They are passionate about developing their employees and also making a positive impact in the areas they work.
Following the recent acquisition of a complementary supplier the long term plan is to grow the business to GBP15m over the next three years. A key part of this will involve the current CEO/owner stepping away from managing the finances into more of an NED role, thereby creating the need for an ambitious Head of Finance to become a key part of the senior management team with a view to becoming Finance Director in the future. This role will involve supervising an existing Finance Manager and two staff, working closely with the MD and Sales Director and the commercial and contracts managers to control the finances, support growth aspirations and contribute ideas. This fantastic role would suit someone looking to be influential on strategic decision making and able to provide innovative solutions to business issues. The main responsibilities will be:
• Ensuring financial processes, systems and controls are operating effectively• Maintaining statutory records for the business• Preparation of consolidated statutory accounts• Preparation of budgets and forecasting• Management reporting and WIP analysis• Liaise with commercial teams on project performance• Review of management accounts packs• Managing transactional team• Handling VAT, PAYE and taxation• Liaising with auditors, banks and other advisers• Insurances and Quality certifications• Project manage process changes and implementations
The ideal candidate for this role must be CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualified accountant ideally with experience from the construction sector and strong knowledge of contracting or a project driven environment. Experience of the breadth of challenges associated with a growing SME will be beneficial as you will also be expected to get involved with day to day IT & HR issues with the support of external consultants if needs be.
You should be a friendly and positive individual who enjoys a challenge, with strong values and an inner drive to deliver the best for clients and your colleagues in the business. This role would suit someone ready to build a career and develop themselves, strong technical skills and the ability to think strategically and commercially will also be key attributes they are looking for.
