Head of People GBP42,355 per annum Bristol /Hybrid working

The Role

Watershed is internationally recognised as a leading centre for film culture, art and technology practise, and talent development programmes. We are looking to appoint a Head of People to lead all of Watershed's People practises, ensuring that both our Human Resources function and our working culture are aligned with our business objectives and values.

Our People strategy identifies learning, development and wellbeing as the focus for the next year and this post will be at the heart of all of this work.

You will play an active role in our senior management team, leading our support for Line Manager and working closely with the Executive team, to ensure all policies and procedures comply with employment legislation and promote a fair and inclusive approach.

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of a Head of People include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify, develop and implement innovative strategic People projects in order to improve employee engagement, organisational performance and support business strategic goals.
  • Develop People policy and procedures designed to drive performance, support wellbeing and mitigate disputes.
  • Design and implement practices that champion an inclusive and equitable workplace.
  • Manage employee relations casework including dispute resolution, disciplinaries, grievances, absence and redundancy.
  • Work closely with managers providing comprehensive People support and guidance on People related issues.
  • Support the recruitment process including oversight of job descriptions, grading, advertising, interviewing etc.
  • Oversee the electronic People system (People Inc.), ensuring that employee records are accurate and up to date and ongoing development of the system to ensure that reporting capabilities are maximised.
  • Oversee all People administration including payroll reporting for our payroll bureau.
  • Manage the implementation of, and ongoing compliance with, GDPR regulations in relation to departmental record keeping.
  • Line management of the People team; HR Assistant and People & Culture Manager.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Head of People are:

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Human Resources/Personnel Management and a qualified member of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development); and/or proven experience in a senior People position.
  • Experience of developing and delivering strategic people projects.
  • An understanding of how to champion an inclusive and values led workplace culture
  • Leadership skills to guide and steer discussion to achieve objectives and promote best practice.
  • Empathy and listening skills to understand other viewpoints and differing needs.
