We are looking to appoint a Chief Financial Officer to join the senior leadership team of the Foundation and help us realise our ambitious plans for global expansion and impact over the next decade.
Working closely with the Chief Executive and Executive team, you will be responsible for strategic financial advice to the board, budgeting and financial planning & analysis, identifying and managing risks, and managing the Foundation's investments to secure our long term sustainability. As part of this, you will play a critical role in managing the Foundation's shareholding in RP Ltd.
You will also act as Company Secretary, ensuring that governance is properly managed, particularly as we expand internationally. You will play a strategic role in helping us identify and proactively manage risks, and you will have oversight of our operations and fundraising functions, both of which are led by effective and experienced directors.
This is a unique opportunity to join the leadership of one of the most exciting educational nonprofits at the forefront of the movement to democratise computing education and tackle educational disadvantage.
We strive to make the Foundation a place where talented people who care about our mission can do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you’re the right person for the job, we’ll make it work for you, and you can be confident that you’ll be working with an exceptional team.
Main responsibilities
We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth, and we welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate that they have some, but not all, of the experience and personal attributes listed here.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-based educational charity with a global mission to enable young people to realise their potential through the power of computing and digital technologies.
Established in 2008 and first known for our product - the Raspberry Pi computer - the Foundation has developed education programmes, learning experiences, and products that are helping millions of young people learn vital new knowledge and skills.
We are an operating Foundation, meaning that we advance our mission through practical action rather than primarily through giving grants. Through Code Club and CoderDojo, we support the world’s largest networks of free computing clubs; we have trained tens of thousands of teachers; millions of young people use our free learning resources to learn how to code; and our research is helping to elevate the whole field of computing education.
Across all of our work, we are focused on supporting young people who experience educational disadvantage or who come from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in the field of computing. Our resources are used all over the world and we are particularly focused on expanding our impact in six growth markets: India, Ireland, Kenya, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the USA. We are entering an exciting new phase, with ambitious plans to expand our impact globally.
The Foundation is the parent company of a group of organisations including: Raspberry Pi Limited (UK); Raspberry Pi Foundation North America (USA); CoderDojo Foundation (Ireland); and Raspberry Pi Education Services (India). In 2021, the Group had a combined turnover of over £100m.
Raspberry Pi Limited (RP Ltd) is the commercial trading subsidiary of the Foundation, responsible for all aspects of the design and distribution of Raspberry PI computers and associated products.
The Foundation’s income comes from a mix of profits from RP Ltd, contracts for the provision of educational services, and philanthropic donations from corporates, trusts, and individuals. In 2022, the Foundation will spend c. £12.2m on advancing its educational mission.
The Foundation has a Financial Controller and a finance & accounting team of three qualified and part-qualified individuals, who are responsible for supporting the whole Group, other than RP Ltd which has its own CFO and a separate finance function.
We are at the forefront of the global movement to help young people learn about computing and digital making. You can read more about our mission, values, and goals in our Annual Review 2021 and our Strategy 2022–2025.
