Managing Director of Marine & Consents required to lead the Marine business unit of a highly respected independent consultancy firm and drive its continued growth in a UK and global context.
Reporting into the Group CEO, you will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing their global growth strategy for the marine sector. This will include, but not restricted to, the offshore wind and renewables space across EMEA, the Americas, and the APAC. You will lead a team of experienced and respected ecologists, scientists and environmental consultants, currently sitting at over 100. A key requirement will be to develop and grow this team, while maintaining the excellent reputation the business has established while attracting some of the best talent across the globe.
The ideal candidate will bring strategic, commercial and leadership ability, and will also be comfortable operating as part of an executive team, recognising the value of attracting and retaining talent in a competitive market.
The role can be home–based, with key hubs located in Glasgow, Manchester and the South West.
Role
- Lead the development and implementation of the global growth strategy and business plan for the Marine business unit, covering EIA, consents and ecological disciplines.
- Set and manage targets and budgets and be responsible for the growth and profitability of the Marine business unit.
- Drive growth by working closely with existing clients; developing new clients. new lines of business and new markets.
- Motivate and lead a highly engaged team, providing robust and inspirational leadership to colleagues whilst fostering an open, empowering and collegiate culture.
- Build knowledge of the market and market trends, ensuring the business is at the heart of global environmental services and policy, maintaining their competitive edge.
- Forge strong, cohesive and effective working relationships both internally and externally with key stakeholders, trade associations and external bodies.
- Engage with and understand the business's marine clients and stakeholders' challenges in order to find or develop solutions.
Requirements
- Demonstrable track record in senior leadership role gained within an environmental or multidisciplinary engineering consultancy or relevant field.
- Significant experience at senior level within the marine infrastructure or renewable energy sectors is desirable.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of delivering revenue and headcount growth.
- Excellent network of private and public sector contacts with a positive external market profile across the UK and internationally.
- Ability to operate in a fast–paced environment, juggling multiple and sometimes changing priorities.
- Strategic thinker, capable of visualising and planning for the longer term.
- Experience operating as a member of a senior leadership or executive team, in influencing and advising on business unit strategy, and reporting to the Board.
- Ability to engage effectively and build collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Passionate about developing and mentoring others whilst empowering them to deliver and realise their potential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, inclusive, engaging and articulate.
