My client, a global organisation with a head office in Birmingham, is looking for an interim data protection officer to join the business. The role reports into the General Counsel and will be part of a wider multi–disciplinary team across legal, compliance and data protection.
The position is to start asap and will require some on–site working in Birmingham, as you will be liaising with senior stakeholders int he business and will be heavily involved in data protection implementation and strategy.
The day to day role will involve:
- Develop, maintain and improve the data protection policies and processes
- Ensure business lines in scope are compliant with GDPR and other relevant legislation where applicable
- Managing data subject rights requests and complaints
- Assisting and advising with data sharing agreements
- Reviewing data protection contract clauses
- Provide oversight, control and risk management for any data breaches when they occur
- Promote a culture of data protection culture within the business
- Actively progress and maintain a programme of internal and customer/supplier audits.
- Developing a data protection framework and carrying out associated audits to meet accountability requirements.
- Supporting the information security/cyber security plan and objectives.
- Liaising and engaging with the ICO as the UK's data protection supervisory authority and other data protection supervisory bodies.
The successful candidate will have:
- Extensive experience in data protection
- A formal data protection qualification
- Previous exposure implementing a data protection function
- In–depth knowledge of GDPR and other national/international data protection laws
- National and international data protection law knowledge
- Experience of working at a senior level in a large organisation
- Capable of developing strong relationships
- Enthusiasm for data protection and privacy matters
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, presentation, mediation and negotiation, proven ability to engage at all levels within an organisation to obtain necessary information
- Ability to interpret complex information
- Able to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment
