Interim Head of HR

We are seeking an experienced Head of HR to drive forward the HR Strategy, manage the HR Team, and oversee an award winning & growing Talent Academy for a leading youth charity, as maternity cover.

Position: Interim Head of HR

Location: Hybrid working. Blend of home–based and office. Must live within regular commutable distance of Bolton

Salary: GBP50,000 to GBP60,000 (dependent upon experience)

Contract: Fixed–term, 9–12 months (based on maternity cover). Ideally the post holder will start in November/December 2022 to allow a sufficient handover.

Flexible hours: will consider 3–5 days a week (37.5 hours/week full time)

About the role:

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team , a key focus of this role will be to provide hands–on management to an experienced HR and L&D Team, consisting of an HR Advisor, HR Support Manager, Talent Academy Manager, Talent Academy Officer and Executive Assistant.

However, it is much wider than team management; it is about relationships. Relationships with internal colleagues, relationships with Network contacts, and relationships with third party suppliers. The role is seen as a crucial support function for the Youth Zones, and it is imperative that the post holder is able to build rapport quickly and be an approachable and knowledgeable source of support for colleagues.

Some of your key duties include:

  • Providing professional leadership, support and development to the HR team
  • Ensuring that the charity continues to comply with current regulations, policies, procedures and legislation
  • Managing the execution of the HR Strategy and core areas of the HR department
  • Supporting the delivery and implementation of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy
  • Coaching, supporting and advising senior members of staff on wider organisational and HR matters
  • Supporting senior level recruitment across the charity's Network
  • Oversee the work of the L&D function, the Talent Academy

About you:

As Interim Head of HR you must have proven HR Leadership experience and have managed varied HR Teams.

Other experience and skills you will need include:

  • Experience of managing and overseeing HR systems and budgets
  • Experience of leading the development of effective employment policies and practices, and challenging when appropriate
  • Ability to make quick but rational decisions
  • In–depth knowledge of employment law
  • A proactive and agile work ethic
  • A curious mindset, to think innovatively and rationally about concerns and come up with creative solutions
  • The ability to accept and provide feedback, be challenged on your advice, and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work with varying degrees of support; from working completely under own initiative to working collaboratively with substantial input and critique
  • The ability to develop and nurture relationships across the organisation
