Biomechanical Systems Engineer – Aerospace. Our Client based in Buckinghamshire UK, is looking to appoint a Biomechanical Systems Engineer. The role is responsible for the development and ongoing sustainment of a biomechanics digital modelling capability to help study spinal injury potential. The tool will be used to assess current crew escape systems (CES) and to inform/support the development of the next generation CES physiological safety and injury requirements. This numerical model will facilitate our client's mission to gain a deeper understanding into possible injury mechanisms and how to prevent or mitigate them, predict the impact of implementing design changes or modern flight equipment changes, hereby supporting the company's in–house physical testing activities. The role inherently requires a strong aptitude for problem solving and an ability to understand complex inter–dependencies within the fields of multi–body rigid physics, occupant biomechanics, trauma and accidental injury, aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics. The Systems Engineer is a member of the Systems Engineering Group, comprising of Systems Engineering, Software Engineering and Electronic Engineering. Qualifications: 1st or 2.1 Accredited and relevant STEM degree. Key Accountabilities: Contribute to the team to collaboratively develop and deliver digital models and innovative analysis techniques for occupant biomechanics modelling. Develop a comprehensive understanding of anthropomorphic test devices (ATD) and instrumentation in collaboration with the Test department. Utilise the software MSC Adams to replicate the ATD joint dynamics response to acceleration loading during escape as seen in physical testing. Conduct feasibility and trade studies, often in respect of potential new business, using appropriate software tools, for ejection seat performance predictions and physiological assessments for injury potential. Support all levels of testing from proof–of–concept through integration and qualification testing. Support the on–going airworthiness of the companies products. Prepare a wide range of highly complex, comprehensive technical documentation, including internal, customer and contract defined deliverables. Provide technical advice and domain knowledge to both internal and external stakeholders, via written and verbal means. Secondary Activities: To help support the mission of the Human Systems Integration team across multiple research and operational areas. To undertake business travel as and when required. To present work at international conferences, or at meetings with our key academic and industrial partners. Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge in multibody system dynamics. Knowledge in the fields of biomechanics, trauma and accidental injury, and / or automotive/aerospace crash testing. Some experience (1+yrs) of engineering complex systems. Experience of working with a variety of internal stakeholders of varying seniorities. Experience of contributing to system design within an integrated team of engineering disciplines. Desirable: Knowledge and application of Aerospace / Defence or similar engineering environment. General knowledge and experience of working with injury assessments requirements/standards. Specific Technical Skills: Experienced in numerical modelling, data analysis and / or statistical analysis. Experienced in rigid body modelling (tools akin to MSC ADAMS). Desirable: Experience with the MSC ADAMS tool suite. Familiar with the systems engineering process, project phases and engineering technical reviews. Experience in some aspects of requirements elicitation, definition, decomposition, verification, and traceability maintenance. This role is offered on a Permanent basis and is a real opportunity to be employed by a world leader in their field. Candidates will undergo and gain Security Clearance. Candidates competencies: Good verbal and written communication / collaboration skills. Planning and organising work for yourself.
