Our client is a market leading, pioneering pharmaceutical and life sciences Listed business based on the South Coast. The organisation has a particular focus on innovative treatments for widespread conditions and devotes significant resources to ongoing research and development. The organisation is very well established, with an annual revenue of around £80 million, 700 employees across UK and major European markets, and GMP manufacturing facilities in Spain and UK. It is also successfully entering a potentially ground breaking new market in a previously underserved patient population. As such the business is anticipating substantial growth and overseas expansion – in particular the USA. The CEO is looking to hire a new CFO to partner him driving the business forward on the next stage of the international growth and expansion. This role demands a combination of strategic Board level input as well as hands on day to day activities. The ideal candidate must be willing to participate in frequent international travel and should also have a demonstrable track record in a UK listed business. Previous exposure to capital raising in the US would also be very helpful. The current finance team is of a decent size and a new CFO would be well supported by both overseas and UK based colleagues.

Key accountabilities:
  • Direct control of all aspects of financial management across the organisation to include all external and internal reporting and everyday finance related activities
  • Ensure effective corporate governance and risk management across the organisation
  • Manage relationships with current and potential investors, bankers, auditors and other third parties
  • Take a lead in all fundraising and M&A activities
  • Oversee all IT, including potentially leading a systems upgrade
  • Be able to add value with regard to contract negotiations, supplier negotiations and other adhoc commercial decision making across the organisation
This role is both high profile and visible. Suitable candidates will be required to have a certain degree of confidence, charisma and resilience as the sector is known to be uncertain and unpredictable due to the nature of clinical trials and medical discoveries and interventions.
