Head of Finance - Early stage venture capital/start-up

Rapidly expanding early stage venture capital firm are looking for a Head of Finance to join their finance team. You'll be part of a small but growing team of 4, meaning you'll be supported, along with having space and independence to grow your role within the business.

Reporting directly to the CFO, you will initially manage a team of 3 direct reports adding to the team as the Group grows and the business demands it, this role will encompass:

Portfolio valuations:
  • Review the valuations calculation of portfolio investments on a regular basis in line with IPEV guidelines. You will initially have to perform the valuation caluclations yourself whilst you train the team
  • Coach junior members of the team how to undertake the valuations of portfolio investments in line with IPEV guidelines
  • Work with the investment team to ensure accurate calculation of the portfolio valuations
  • Ensure the production of the quarterly portfolio valuations is delivered on time


FP&A and Business Partnering
  • Review and deliver analysis to business heads and partnering to key stakeholders for all FP&A activities and regular forecasting for project costs and capex
  • Development of budget, forecast and financial plans with monitoring against actuals and detailed variance analysis, understanding the historic, current and forecast performance
  • Collaborate with the investment team to deliver the accurate valuations of the portfolio investments·
  • Assist with analysis for board and management presentations, project appraisals and business cases


Review Monthly Subsidiary Financial Accounts
  • Prepare monthly management accounts for UK Group by 6th working day
  • Complete the monthly P&L, B/S and Cashflows with commentary on the numbers for the Plc board report
  • Work with the company accountants to ensure accurate and timely completion of monthly financial accounts. Ensuring quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Review the operating subsidiaries monthly P&L, balance sheet and supporting reconciliations.
  • Review operating subsidiary cash flows


Statutory Reporting Annual Audit:
  • Be responsible for preparation of financial statements and technical content of the listed interim H1 and annual Plc reports for AIM reporting
  • Production of year end consolidated & individual statutory accounts and regulatory financial reports. Ensuring all filings are completed and submitted in line with deadlines
  • Prepare weekly consolidated cash flow forecast


Internally Developed Software:
  • With the company accountants, prepare the monthly internally developed software capitalisation journals
  • Ensure that internally developed software documentation is maintained, including review and working with the development team to update project plans.

Experience Required:
  • IPEV Valuation experience within a private equity or VC fund or within an advisory team at a Top 10 accountancy firm
  • Industry experience as a hands-on Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Group Reporting Manager in a financial services business or Private Equity / Venture Capital Fund
  • Previous experience working in a listed business
  • Demonstrable technical accounting background, including knowledge of local IFRS and FRS 101


Skills
  • Qualified Accountant Ideally ACA or ACCA (CIMA will be considered)
  • IPEV valuation experience
  • Big four trained preferred
  • Excellent understanding of accounting standards (FRS 101 and IFRS)
  • Advanced skills in Excel
