Head of Operations, GBP60–85,000The Role: As Head of Operations, you will be a member of the Senior Management Team, reporting into the Managing Director, initially with responsibility for the Order Fulfilment, Warehouse and Picking teams, with the addition of the Transport and Logistic function over time. You will be empowered to make a significant impact on the future direction of this forward–thinking business, responsible for devising the strategy required to maximise operational excellence and for the successful implementation of this strategy across the business. This, along with your charismatic, motivational and supportive leadership skills, ensuring all efforts are aligned, will result in achieving the highest levels of delivery, service and operational efficiency. The Head of Operations (Operations Manager) role is based in the Head Office in the beautiful Chew Valley (BS39, 12 miles south of Bristol and Bath).
The Person: The successful Head of Operations (Operations Manager) will have worked at Senior Management level, with accountability for strategic direction and the implementation of change across an operation. They will be ambitious and highly driven to deliver a vision of operational excellence, building a team and operation that provides the highest level of customer experience. FMCG experience and a good understanding of warehouse and distribution operations is required but knowledge of the food sector is not essential.
Working Hours: As a high proportion of the business operates at night, (shifts are 12–9am, 9pm–6am and 5pm–6am) we would like the successful Head of Operations (Operations Manager) to initially work 60% nights, enabling you to fully understand the team and operational requirements. Once you have been in post for 6–12 months, we would expect this to reduce to 20% nights, 80% days.

Established in 1962 they now turn over 50 million and employ nearly 500 people from their 2 sites, in central Bristol (BS2) and their head office, in the beautiful Chew Valley, 12 miles south of Bristol and Bath (BS39).
Head of Operations (Operations Manager), Responsibilities:
- Oversee and direct all operational activities across the organisation.
- Define, measure and analyse end–to–end business processes to identify root cause problems and restructure business activities to drive greater service excellence, cost efficiencies and enhance operational standards.
- Structure delivery plans for change initiatives.
- Manage the strategic partnerships across the key business areas (warehouse, transport, quality, customer excellence, sales, finance etc.).
- Define performance management KPI s to monitor operations success against objectives.
- Responsibility and accountability for Operational strategy – provide strategic direction for the Operations function through the development of an Operations Plan aligned to the company s Business Plan, objectives and overall strategy.
- Team Management and Leadership – review, mentor and develop Departmental Managers, obtaining their buy–in to operational direction and motivating them to cascade best practice throughout the business, establishing a culture of high standards, continuous business improvement and teamwork.
- Develop leadership and coaching programmes to increase employee effectiveness.
- Report to the board on operation activities against business goals and assist senior management in setting goals that promote company success.
- Identify and implement business systems that maximise financial gain, operational efficiency and the customer experience.
- Comply with Company Health & Safety policy.
Head of Operations (Operations Manager), Skills and Experience required:
- Experience of being strategically accountable for an Operation at board level
- A successful track record of delivering operational excellence, driving business change and implementing policies and procedures to maximise efficiency and customer experience.
- A charismatic and motivational manager with significant experience of modern line management techniques and a proven ability to lead, mentor and develop a team.
- Commercially astute and highly motivated
- Experience of working in a FMCG environment, Warehouse and Logistics, or similar.
- A high level of IT literacy
- A full UK Driving License
