Head of Finance and Operations

My client, a respected multi-site Independent School, is seeking an experienced senior finance professional to join them at an exciting stage in their growth. Part of a larger group of schools, this is a highly visible role with exciting growth opportunities within a profitable organisation.

Ideally situated and commutable from West Kent/ East Sussex, the school provides right through education for students aged 1 to 18 years old across dedicated sites. Leading a team of 5 made up of both finance and operations people, this is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced Bursar or School Finance professional to join a forward thinking organisation. Equally, a Senior Finance Professional, looking to make a move from either Practice or Industry into the Education sector would be well placed to offer the financial leadership this role requires whilst adapting to the needs of the organisation.

The role requires a forward thinking candidate with a strong background in Finance and will be fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA and will be a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting to both the Head and with a dotted line to the regional Group FD. Demonstrable knowledge of IFRS will be essential and key duties will include:

• Implementing adequate controls and processes
• Financial planning and analysis
• Maintain the fixed asset register
• Implement robust internal control system and compliance environment
• Reporting of all monthly and annual financial information
• Monthly budget variance reports

The role will also see the right candidate taking charge of key operational aspects, line managing both estates and transport, supporting the head on all CAPEX projects and ensuring best practice for all aspects of the maintenance and management of the school’s buildings and grounds, as well as the health, safety and compliance aspects of the school operations.
