Seashell Trust is a truly inspiring organisation. One of the UK’s leading providers of educational and residential facilities for children and young adults with the most complex educational needs, the trust was founded in 1823 and is based on a 30 acre site in South Manchester. Seashell is in the midst of a £60m transformation project which will deliver world class facilities including new residential homes, a newly built school and campus with integrated swimming, hydrotherapy and refectory facilities and extended training, sports, leisure, community engagement and recreational facilities.
At this critical point in Seashell’s evolution, a commercially astute Director of Finance is required to play a pivotal role in the Executive Leadership Team.
The Role
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance will be a key member of the Seashell Executive Team, driving organisational and cultural change and ensuring that strategic and operational demands of the Finance, IT and Business Excellence functions are delivered to the highest standards.

The Role
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance will be a key member of the Seashell Executive Team, driving organisational and cultural change and ensuring that strategic and operational demands of the Finance, IT and Business Excellence functions are delivered to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities encompass:
- Financial Management: Ensure a robust financial management, control, budgeting and reporting regime is in place across the Trust; Streamline Board reporting with insightful and relevant financial and operational KPIs and commentary; Maintain sound working capital and cashflow management disciplines;
- Leadership: Provide leadership to a team of 14 across Finance, IT and Business Excellence;
- Partnering and Commercial: Provide support and partnering to both internal and external functions and stakeholders; Develop effective commercial business models that enable the Trust to succeed in achieving its strategic priorities, including in particular, accurate pricing and costing models;
- Strategy and Planning: Contribute to the development of strategic plans and vision and align these with service delivery; Translate strategic direction into operational improvement planning;
- Change and Transformation: Foster a culture of continuous improvement in all aspects of the Trust, working closely with the Head of Business Excellence;
- IT: Ensure that IT services across the Trust are proactive and fit for purpose; Oversee the design and implementation of the Trust’s digital transformation strategy;
- Risk Management: Responsibility for planning, designing, implementing and reporting on an overall risk management process;
- Legal & Company Secretary: Provide support to the Executive Leadership Team on a wide range of legal, regulatory and data compliance matters and fulfil the role of Company Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
- Astute qualified accountant (ACA/ACMA/ACCA) with substantial experience of leading and driving change within a complex organisation;
- Strong commercial acumen, analytical, performance driven and solutions focused;
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills, able to challenge and influence in a supportive style;
- Experienced driver of continuous improvement and change with effective people skills and gravitas to support effective delivery;
- Strong understanding of IT and MI systems with strong systems implementation/ change knowledge and experience.
