Our client is a leading player in the retail sector.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established team focused on the property portfolio and the ongoing expansion across the UK.

Reporting into the head of commercial property this role will utilise the commercial property skills you have developed in a Private Practice setting.

This is a highly commercial role in a fast moving environment where you will have direct contact with some of the most senior stakeholders across the business.

As in house commercial property counsel you will provide up to the minute advice to a multitude of fast moving situations across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and settle leases, licences and agreements for new and existing stores with third party landlords
  • Instruct, supervise and review output from external lawyers to deliver their ambitious new store opening programme efficiently and to deadline
  • Advise on all types of management issues arising from the existing estate portfolio such as renewal leases, surrenders and regrants, licences for alterations, deeds of variation and disputes with adjoining occupiers and landlords
  • Analyse key data in relation to legal and property situations to assess risk and takes steps to mitigate risk
  • Control risk and compliance on a consistent and regular basis
  • Work closely with external advisers, including panel firms and planning consultants
  • Establish strong working relationships with senior property solicitor, wider legal and property team plus other relevant business stakeholders to understand commercial objectives then provide high quality and relevant advice and other deliverables
  • Collaborate with business colleagues, participating in discussions and decision-making process for property matters
  • Control risk and compliance on a continued and repeating basis
  • Provide training to internal colleagues and external partners on legal developments and best practice
  • Draft, advise on and negotiate property-related commercial agreements (e.g. construction contracts with contractors, business rates, utility contracts)
About you

We are looking for an experienced commercial property solicitor. You will either be in Private Practice or already in house.

Working well in a fast moving environment is a must plus the ability to not get bogged down in the detail. You will need a commercial approach and outstanding communication skills.

Probable level of experience 3+pqe
