The Business:
Muller Group based out of Germany has a turnover of around GBP7bn. The GBP3bn+ UK business is split into three Muller companies, plus Cullina Logistics. Muller Milk & Ingredients (MMI) turns over around GBP1.1bn and produces milk, butter, and commodity products. The official HQ is Droitwich with dairies in Bridgwater, Stonehouse, Droitwich, Market Drayton, Manchester and Scotland.
MMI supplies into well known UK retailers with the Commercial Finance team supporting these commercial relationships, their key role being to accurately understand the costs and margins involved in delivering often complex customer requirements, diligently support tendering processes and look for ways to improve profitability by working across functions including Sales, Manufacturing, Logistics, Innovation and R&D.
From the entry point of Commercial Finance Business partner, you can progress to Senior Business Partner, Financial Controller, a Head of Finance position or develop within the Commercial function.
The Opportunity:
You ll be joining a supportive team environment in a fast–paced role that has a high degree of contact with people, particularly over Teams and phone calls. Whilst the role is home–based, you ll need to attend 2–3 face to face meetings a month, typically in Droitwich, Market Drayton or Manchester. You will be involved in customer meetings with most of these now being held over Teams.
Your responsibilities:
- Develop a detailed understanding of the underlying monthly performance of the customer accounts you are responsible for delivering evaluation and continuous review of customer profitability by product and location.
- Own the delivery of the account profitability in partnership with the Business Unit Head, working to drive increased value into the customer account.
- Challenge and influence the commercial team on customer volume and margin assumptions and ways to improve commercial outcomes.
- Input into detailed budget and forecasting process with the Commercial teams.
- Identify improvements in the forecasting process working with the accounting function.
- Consolidate retail financial data from all systems into accurate and relevant information, so the business can make informed commercial decisions.
- Support the process for retail tenders, ensuring accurate cost/margin inputs.
- Identify and implement improvements in the commercial review process, including the monthly demand review, weekly volume analysis.
- Support the retail Finance Controller in order to achieve their targets and improve profitability.
- run the monthly management accounts process for commercial finance for relevant retail customers.
- Maintain retail customer contracts ensuring all contractual adjustments and necessary provisions are made in a timely manner to ensure consistent profitability.
- Support the commercial team with analysis and insight in response to customer requests.
- Ensure that members of the Commercial team comply with the GO documentation in terms of rules and principles.
- Ensure that all documentation is appropriately filed and controlled so that access is given only to those that need it, whilst making it readily accessible should we be challenged to provide evidence of authorisation.
Who are we looking for?
- Fully or nearly Qualified Accountant (ACMA, ACCA, ACA)
- Proven experience Business Partnering
- Excellent relationship building and communication skills; able to tailor communications to the audience involved.
- Strong Excel and analytical skills.
- ERP systems knowledge useful but not essential (Movex/AS400, Access, Cognos, SAP), however, must be able to handle complex data, imperfect processes and data ambiguity!
- Tenacious, motivated, able to work in a fast–paced business and good at spinning plates!
