Nelson Permanent Placements are currently recruiting for a Head of HR to work for our client who are a leading multi–disciplined engineering and construction group, offering full turnkey capabilities from conception brief to full design and build for a wide variety of market sectors.
The role of the Head of HR will be to enable our client to deliver its business strategy through the focused resourcing and development of its people. In this role you will be supported across the business by the CEO & COO.
This is a true generalist HR position for experienced candidates who are comfortable operating at tactical and strategic level. The business consists of 650 team members across the UK and Ireland with the strategy to increase the headcount to 1000 by 2025.
To be considered for this role you must have a minimum of 4 years experience working within a HR Management role and be CIPD Level 7 qualified.
The ideal candidate will have worked within the Engineering, M&E or Construction industry and be used to working within a very fast paced environment.
Key duties & responsibilities
Liaising directly with the Board and being accountable for the performance of the HR function as well as providing counsel on all people matters
Manage the whole employee lifecycle from onboarding to departure from the business
Manage all HR casework, providing advice and support to managers on matters relating to complex employee relations, employment law, TUPE and all relevant legislation
Continuously review policies and procedures and implement changes/new policies as required, ensuring all legislative advice is up to date, consistent and communicated
Oversee the recruitment of staff at all levels, minimising the vacancy levels and recruitment costs
Plan, design and deliver a bespoke HR system with automated reporting
Developing and implementing HR initiatives including recruitment, learning and development, employee engagement and compensation and benefits in line with company strategy and objectives
Manage all employee benefit schemes, ensuring promotion through effective methods to ensure high utilisation
Leading the annual employee engagement survey, interpreting employee feedback and developing action plans accordingly with the aim of creating a better working environment and engaged culture
Manage the HR team, setting direction and expectations, proactively managing performance
Along with your main duties, you will also be expected to carry out any other duties that are reasonably asked of you.
Qualifications and Experience
CIPD level 7 qualified with evidence of continuous professional development.
Excellent employment law knowledge and proven experience of applying updated legislation to a variety of HR situations.
Managed redundancy situations and experienced in coaching managers through this and leading where necessary.
Familiarity of managing TUPE situations and able to counsel senior management on appropriate practice
Held previous position of seniority, able to establish credibility and build department accountability.
Experience of acting as a role model is essential and leading teams.
Demonstrates commercial acumen – partners with the business to deliver commercially focused people strategies and has a good
overall understanding of company finances and uses this to develop policies.
Evidence of having a passion for working with people and working beyond the confines of the job description.
