The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) is looking to recruit for a new position that will play a key role in the senior management team of developing and driving our approach to people, supporting the organisation in achieving its vision, mission and strategic goals.
The Head of People will be responsible for leading the development, implementation and evaluation of a best in class people strategy alongside management and delivery of core HR & environmental policies and processes.
The successful candidate will be an experienced HR generalist with experience advising and supporting heads of departments and line managers and other employees on all HR issues, ensuring compliance with UK Employment legislation and will have confidence leading, training and developing of teams. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional to take on a leadership role and shape our organisation s approach to People (aka Team Chamber). The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce is a business membership and support organisation that exists to Connect, Support and Grow local businesses. It employs c.80 FTE staff. This role will include line management responsibility for a full time HR Assistant.
Responsibilities of the role
• People Strategy: to develop, implement and evaluate a coherent approach to attracting, retaining and developing people.
• Policies: to take responsibility for ensuring all key operating and employment policies and procedures are in line with legislation and business needs. This includes working with colleagues on developing the policies on environmental sustainability (working with third party advisors where needed/agreed with line manager).
• Reporting: to measure and report on key metrics including diversity, staff turnover and employee feedback.
• Guidance, Support & Assistance: to support and advise managers and the executive team with matters of current Employment Law, employee relations and performance.
• Pay, Benefits & Pensions: To oversee payroll and pensions and ensure correct administration of Employee Benefits Schemes. Supporting the Chief Financial Officer to ensure the annual performance management process is effectively facilitated and the annual pay review is managed and processed. Ensuring equal pay across the organisation.
• Coordinating Business Restructures: Dealing efficiently with internal restructures when required.
What we are looking for
Essential:
• Education to a minimum of Level 7 CIPD qualification, with Chartered membership of the Charted Institute of Personnel & Development
• Minimum 5 years of generalist experience at a management level
• Experience in managing and coordinating a broad range of HR activities.
• Proven experience in Learning and Development of organisations, teams and individuals
• Proven experience of coaching and mentoring
• Strong influencing and negotiation skills to ensure best–fit solutions to key business issues.
• Effective project management, reports writing and presentation skills
• Ability to manage and delegate a varied workload effectively to meet operational requirements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels, including active listening and questioning techniques and counselling skills
• Proficient IT skills and ability to interpret statistical information together with a working knowledge of specialist HR database systems Desirable
• Experience of Processing Payroll
• Experience of processing pensions, including salary sacrifice
