It is an exciting time to join our client, a brand new, premium retirement living platform. The business brings together best in class, experienced management and a high profile European private equity real estate investor. The business proposition is to scale across the UK and become a leader in this growth market. It expects to start construction on its first two high profile sites this year and has secured a further two sites that will be acquired later this year.

As a key part of their development plans, they have created the new position of Finance Director to work at the heart of the business. The role will be both hands-on and strategic, building and leading a first in class finance function and supporting and partnering the leadership team’s ambitious growth agenda. This is a future CFO role in what will become a substantial and valuable business. There is a hybrid working model in place with a London Head Office and some weekly travel, given the expanding footprint of the operations.

This will provide a superb career opportunity for a commercially focused finance leader looking to have real impact in a truly varied and impactful role spanning all areas of finance.

Key responsibilities:
  • Setting up a new finance function from scratch - developing systems, process and recruiting the finance team to support the business as it grows
  • Ensuring the finance function supports the wider business – land, construction, sales and marketing as well as operations
  • Prepare MI and board reports for Executives, shareholders and other stakeholders
  • Lead on management and financial reporting, including statutory reporting and filings
  • Manage budgeting process (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash)
  • Implementing construction cost reporting to ensure costs do not exceed budget
  • Preparation of operational monthly management accounts, with budget analysis and site comparatives
  • Implement commercial KPIs and measures that support decision making and analysis
  • Full oversight of FP&A, including financial modelling of investments, new business opportunities
  • Build robust cash flow forecasts and market analysis and scenario planning
  • Working with leadership team in assessing the financial implications of initiatives under consideration and developing reporting functionality that supports the team beyond the finance function
Experience:
  • Qualified accountant with excellent academics
  • The ideal candidate will have experience of setting up a finance function and be from either a development background or operational background in care
  • Business understanding to link finance control requirements with operational needs
  • Strong IT skills, ideally having implemented systems
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, organised and attentive to detail
  • Team player who can understand their role and ensure the Finance functions supports other functions
  • Enthusiastic with a proactive personality and 'can do' approach
  • Able to solve problems and strong organisational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Flexible and willing to travel to varied locations, weekly overnight stay expected in the Midlands to attend SMT meetings
