FD Recruit are exclusively searching for a Chief Finance Officer (CFO) for a successful, well respected and rapidly growing Construction and Infrastructure business based in the UK with projects predominantly in Africa. My client requires an experienced, strategically focussed professional to work with the SLT to ensure a sustained period of growth. To be responsible for the financial sustainability and development of the company and to provide high quality leadership and management of the finance and business function to enable the business to run smoothly, efficiently and effectively in the delivery of the organisations project programme portfolio and core business aims to meet the five year business plan

Key responsibilities – As CFO you will:

  • Have complete oversight of the day–to–day running of finance, lead, develop and expand the finance team
  • Business partner closely with the Finance Director, and other senior stakeholders, to ensure the Company hits its strategic milestones
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting process, oversee the financial planning and budgeting process
  • Lead the establishment of new international offices, predominantly in Africa, ensuring they run in accordance with local laws, financial governance and regulatory requirements
  • Offer key strategic advice and analysis in relation to international expansion and the Company's growth strategy
  • Supervise the accounting department to ensure the proper functioning of all systems, databases and financial software. Provide regular maintenance and backup of all accounting systems

Strategy, Planning & Management

  • Assess and evaluate financial performance of the organisation with regard to long–term operational goals, budgets and forecasts. Provide insight and recommendations to both short–term and long–term growth plans of the organisation
  • Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company's plan for growth and expansion
  • Select and engage consultants, auditors and financial institutions
  • Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives and operational models
  • Implement policies, procedures and processes as deemed appropriate by the SLT
  • Responsible, either directly or by managing staff, for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting and financial reporting, helping to drive the company's financial strategy and hiring needs
  • Coordinate the development of the annual operating, capital and project programme budgets, and cashflow reporting against the same
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with company operations, by overseeing the day–to–day accounting, recording, reporting and internal control activities of the organisation
  • Lead the development and use of best practice policies, practices and tools that ensure a well controlled yet flexible organisation with strong fiscal management, project management, cross team communications and workflow

Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Overseeing the preparation of an annual draft budget plan for consideration by the MD and the Board before the start of each relevant financial year
  • Monitoring expenditure and reporting to the Managing Director regarding income and cash flow against the approved budget and submitting monthly reports to the Board
  • Prepare and present monthly financial budgeting reports including monthly profit and loss by department forecast vs budget by project and weekly cash flow by project
  • Review and analyse monthly financial results and provide recommendations
  • Develop and maintain monthly operating budget and annual company operating budget
  • Reviewing the annual, quarterly, monthly and ad–hoc management accounts
  • Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure
  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyse internal operations, identify areas of cost reduction and process enhancement

Candidate Characteristics

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, client–development/relationship–building skills.
  • Excellent Decision–making, planning and prioritising skills
  • Ability to adjust to variable working environments with ntegrity and reliability

Skills and experience

  • Previously been a Chief Financial Officer and Director of a business
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree (MBA) in Accounting, buisness or other finance–related studies
  • Prior experience in the construction industry specialising in large infrastructure projects and exposure to the Sub–Saharan business environment
  • Qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA with at least 10 years PQE and 5+ years in CFO/FD roles
  • Extensive experience in leading and developing finance functions and staff
  • Excellent inter–personal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment and a rapidly growing business
  • Excellent Excel skills
