Financial Controller

This is a very exciting, newly created role to join a highly regarded designer as their Financial Controller. They have stores across the UK, Europe and Japan. The business itself is a small company with big passion for design and quality. As the Financial Controller you will be reporting into the Managing Director and have 3 direct report.

Our client is looking for an individual who wants to be part of a small business, passionate about team and a strong business partner who also likes to attend the stores to ensure that relationship is strong.

Key Objectives of this Role

Manage a dynamic and successful Finance department
Ensure the company meets all statutory finance and accounting requirements
Liaise with partners and subsidiary companies to ensure timely production of accounts
Act as member of the Senior Management team, providing advice and guidance as required
Contribute to the development of short and long–term financial strategies

Key Daily, Monthly and Annual Responsibilities

Ensure consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all activities, upholding accounting, financial and tax standards and regulations;
Review and maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organisational budgets and actual expenditures;
Review and maintain efficient and effective financial and operating benchmarks, budgets and reporting standards on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis;
Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow;
Manage the payroll process and all other staff related transactions, e.g., pensions, P11Ds, in conjunction with HR;
Responsible for the accurate recording of all stock movements (UK and international) on SAP and the cost of sales for the stock margin reports and investigate differences in conjunction with the Head of Systems;
Ensure month end information is provided to the subsidiary, in France, and overseas branches, Dublin and Florence, to enable them to provide timely information for the accounts. Manage the relationship with local external accountants in these countries;
Manage month and quarter ends and reporting to the holding company in Japan, including the incorporation of overseas branch records in accordance with the timetable agreed with the holding company;
Ensure the VAT return, intrastate reports and postponed import VAT are agreed to the SAP records and reports to HMRC
Prepare the annual statutory accounts and manage the relationship and information provided to the auditors and company secretaries
Manage the preparation of the annual corporation tax return
Maintain the fixed asset register and the monthly depreciation of fixed assets
Monitor and recommend improvements to the Treasury function
Ensure the company remains compliant in relation to finance and taxManagement

Oversee and support the accounting team with dynamic and collaborative leadership which creates an environment of trust and productivity
Review the work and provide constructive feedback to aid the development of the team.
Conduct biannual reviews of roles and feed into salary review process for the accounts team – Management of Finance department budget

General

Review, update manage all accounting systems, in particular SAP and Excel, and the interaction of SAP with other systems, e.g., Ayden in liaison with Head of Systems. Ensure systems meet Company needs and incorporate IT developments
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with the banks.
Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management, the Board and others as required
Provide suggestions for improvements to finance practice procedures for the company and implement as required, ensuring all processes are documented
Work collaboratively as a member of the wider team

Person Specification

Degree in business, accounting, or related field
Professional accounting certification, including ACA, ACCA or equivalent
Significant and proven accounting experience, ideally in a retail environment, at a senior level
Up to date practical knowledge of accounting, tax and regulatory standards
Experience of dealing with international offices and their accounting requirements
Proven ability to provide detailed financial data analysis for Boards and Senior Management
Excellent IT skills and knowledge of accounting systems
Proven experience as a successful collaborative manager of an accounts team
Excellent ability to multitask and meet competing deadlines whilst ensuring attention to detail
Proven ability to bring in changes as required to the efficiency of the accounts function

Salary

GBP80,000 – GBP90,000 pa based on experience + clothing allowance & staff discount

Bonus

10% of annual salary based on the achievement of targets and in line with the rest of the Senior Management Team

Holidays

25 weeks plus the normal 8 Bank Holidays applicable in England
