The Role
This is a new position that has been created to head up the Business Partnering Function. The role reporting into the Director of Finance and you will be managing a team of 7 Head's of Service and indirectly their teams.
You will be an integral part of the finance leadership team, directing your talent and expertise to delivering our bold ambition. Your contribution will have helped us deliver a modern, agile, innovative and proactive business partnering finance service. Success means a diverse and inclusive finance service that is truly at the heart of their strategy, decision making and performance. They have embraced data and insight to bring clarity to our understanding of the future.
This role is critical to ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of their organisation. As Assistant Director, Financial Performance and Insight, you lead the development and continuous improvement of customer-focused Finance Business Partnering and Project Investment Accounting.
At the heart of your success will be the strength of the working relationships you develop with all Directorates and other functions to drive robust decision making throughout the Council. Working closely with the Assistant Director, Financial Strategy, and effectively discharging the responsibilities of Assistant Deputy Section 151 Officer, you will:

- Drive the principles of value for money across the Council and ensure evidence-based investment decision making
- Provide valued financial insight, strategic support, and challenge to all Directorates, and ensure the link between Finance and the business.
- Maintain a culture of accountability and robust financial management, underlining the importance of long-term business planning and financial sustainability
- Provide advice and support around the development of directorate Business Plans
What you need to succeed
- Qualified accountant
- Operated at a senior level and developed strong senior leadership teams
- Be able to create and set up a new service and define how it will work
- Ideally have experience of working in local government organisations but at scale and size due to the very large budgets involved
