Role: Financial Controller – Real Estate
Location: Blackburn, BB1 2FA – Office Based
Hours: Full–Time / Permanent
Salary: GBP65,000+ dependent on experience & Bonus Scheme
What will my role look like?
We have a new opportunity available for a Financial Controller in our Real Estate Finance Team! The team comprises 14 team members managing over $6bn worth of Assets and Leases. EG Groups spans seven different geographies; UK, France, Germany, Italy, BENELUX, Australia and USA.
This is a critical role reporting to the Head of Real Estate Finance. The role has 2 direct reports with a wider team of 7 (one per country). Proven management experience is paramount, involving building and maintaining a team of Analysts and aiding their development and performance.
A key skill / attribute will be managing key stakeholder relationships, agreeing the Fixed Asset valuations with 7 country teams is a key component to the success of this role. Liaising with their financial controllers and signing off monthly financials will be the foundation to these relationships.
The role will also act as a focal point for the Real Estate Team including a Commercial Finance Manager and Leases Manager. The Individual will be expected to lead all aspects of the production of monthly reconciliations, produce statutory notes on a quarterly basis and year–end notes. This would be at a consolidated group level and individual entity/country level.
Introduction of key financial controls and processes based on experience is essential with the need to embed, develop and improve these controls and make Real Estates the ideal finance function for a business with ???6bn worth of managed assets.
We have a 9–month transformation plan for the Real Estates finance function, this role will be key to making a success of this plan with the team and wider EG Group finance functions.
What would my main responsibilities be?
- Effective leader to the team. Management and development of a team of 8 part qualified accountants, making sure they are developed into our leaders for the future.
- Review of monthly Fixed Asset Registers and Reconciliation to trial balances
- Review of Assets under construction, liaising with Country Finance teams and Project Managers to clear aged items, whilst establishing a regular review process.
- Review and correct useful economic life of singular assets and develop the Group Fixed Assets Policy and alignment.
- Work with the commercial Finance manager to develop reporting for Real Estates, which are used for our internal business and investors, linking in with FP&A and developing financial information fit for a multibillion dollar organisation.
- Responsibility for internal and external audits with related audit queries.
- Improving and documenting internal controls, working with our internal Business Improvement team to accelerate change for the better.
- Ensuring adherence to IFRS accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements.
- Lead the Balance Sheet reconciliation process with the support of the team. This includes management of all aspects of the Balance Sheet regarding Fixed Assets. This is at consolidated group and local country team level.
- Working with the commercial manager and developing CAPEX reporting and forecasting our cash needs for future growth in the short, medium and long term.
- Business partnering with key stakeholders – evidence of managing, winning over senior managers is necessary. Not shy to challenge the as is and push for change in the right direction.
- Work with Head of to formalise a month end process and ensure strict deadlines are achieved to support group reporting requirements.
- Develop and ensure team focus of ensuring accuracy of registers and balance sheet reports.
- Lead year end statutory audit process, liaising with external auditors and providing all necessary documentation and evidence.
- Overseeing the preparation statutory accounts and monthly Group pack submissions for fixed assets.
- Lead on acquisition integration, and develop scalability strategy for the analytical team working with the Head of to ensure a smooth transition.
