Location: Northampton (2–3 days)

Salary: GBP80K – GBP100K + additional benefits

Summary: The position holder will build on and develop our culture for safety based on the principle of "Doing the Right Things". This is the philosophy that underpins our whole approach to risk management and the post–holder will help to drive a culture of engagement, collaboration and empowerment across the whole area of health, safety and environmental management.

Acting as an advocate for proactive and positive health and safety management, the post–holder will engage at all levels of the business to ensure that our standards for health, safety and environmental management are understood, implemented and effectively managed.

The post–holder will manage the HSE team ensuring that team members are effectively developed and supported to fulfil their roles and through that ensuring that there is adequate support and guidance for the business to "do the right things".

Key Responsibilities:

  • Culture Development

a. Through active leadership, role modelling and collaborative engagement at all levels, develop a culture for HS&E that ensures that positive health and safety is an underpinning key value.

b. Build on the risk management philosophy of the business – "Doing the Right Things" – to ensure that all employees fully understand our standards for health and safety and their responsibilities in achieving them.

  • 2. Compliance

a. Through the development and implementation of a documented HS&E management system and audit programme, ensure that the business maintains compliance with all relevant statutory provisions.

b. Support the broader Risk & Compliance function in aspects of risk management within area of competence.

  • 3. Investigation and reporting

a. Oversee and lead the investigation of all relevant incidents ensuring that timely and accurate reports are promulgated, and all required actions are closed out.

b. Ensure that all incidents are reported onto the business incident reporting system and where necessary ensure that relevant actions are allocated.

c. Ensure the reporting of relevant incidents onto the global reporting system ensuring that the requirement in IMS are achieved.

  • 4. Training

a. Development and implementation of a training and development programme for health and safety that engages all employees in the principle of "Doing the Right Things" for health and safety and the environment. Develop a training programme that ensures all employees receive training relevant to their role.

  • 5. Team management

a. Ensure all team members are aware of key outcomes, business processes, expectations and that all associated employee procedures are adhered to.

b. Review the training and development needs of functional employees to ensure that employees are trained to the required standards.

  • c. Ensure all company procedures are adhered to, including absence, performance, standards of behaviour, taking due consideration of company values.

:Key Skills/Experience:

* Level 6 qualification in occupational health and safety management.

* Level 5 qualification in environmental management.

* Senior management and team leadership in a complex, multi–site organisation (logistics, warehousing, construction, retail???)

* Proven experience of building and influencing the company safety culture

* Experience in developing and leading a highly performing team

* Excellent stakeholder influencing skills

* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

* Experience in delivering projects

* Experience in risk management

* Good data analysis skills

* Flexible and proactive approach

* Driving licence
