Head of Legal and Monitoring Officer

Your new companyA District Council in Kent are looking for an interim Head of Legal and Monitoring Officer for a minimum of six months. You will lead, motivate and manage colleagues within the Service ensuring that all service and corporateobjectives are met.Your new roleIn the role, you will provide and oversee timely and accurate legal advice and assistance to all departments and officers of the Council (including securing appropriate external advice when necessary) as well as overseeing the Council's responsibilities in relation to data management; including data protection, the UK GDPR and Freedom of Information. Moreover you will ensure effective representation of the Council within legal and tribunal proceedings, either in person, within the legal team or from an appropriate external provider. Finally, you will ensure that contracts, policies and procedures, including election issues, are in accordance with the latest developments of both national and European legislation (whilst relevant).What you'll need to succeedTo be considered for the role, you will be a qualified Lawyer, Solicitor or Barrister and will have considerable post qualification experience. You will have a comprehensive understanding and current knowledge of all relevant law and procedure relevant to local government, as well as knowledge of a range of legal issues affecting local government which may include areas such as governance, housing, finance planning, licensing, procurement, employment law. In addition, you will have experience of a senior leadership role in a complex organisation ensuring effective team performance as well as extensive experience of leading legal and democratic serviceswithin Local Government including as Monitoring Officer or Deputy Monitoring Officer.What you'll get in returnIn return, you will receive a competitive hourly rate (PAYE or umbrella) and the potential for a contract extension.
